Qatar Airways

Hi! I would like to get in touch with the flight attendant(s) of Qatar Airways (QR).
I am joining QR very soon as flight attendant.
Could anyone kindly advice how many Kgs of check - in luggage is approved and / or authorised for the new joiner like me (for QR).
I do not want to pay for over weight charges.
Hence, I better start packing. Do not like last minute job.
I read about the super "rules and regulations". I will follow it. I used to live in the Middle East for almost ten years.
Have many commitments to my family. I have no choice.
Highly appreciated if anyone could kindly advice of the above-mentioned and what I should be aware of other than the "curfew", must be home 12 hours before STD and no visitor during standby.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for all your kind and professional advice.
It helps me a lot. Hence, I know what to do and expect.
Have a pleasant day!
La Mer
Well i have been friends with cabin crew for quite some time now so i do know all the info that you asked for.
As for the sim card well you need to get a photocopy of your passport or your QID and then take it to a Q-Tel certified outlet and fill up a form.
After that they give you a sim-card on the spot.
The locations that i can recollect right now are:
1. Family Food Center 1st floor( you will see it once you get out of the airport).
2. Q-TEL branches in LULU hypermarket, city center, landmark, Hyatt plaza.
Shouldn't be much of a problem cos its easily available.
Regarding the driving license well you need to get a letter from your company stating that you are an an employee there( proof of employment)
along with that you need to fill out a form to apply for a license. Attach 2 photographs and submit it at the local driving school here.
Once you do that they give you a date and and teach you for a set number of classes.
you are allowed to give a test during your classesif you feel you can clear it.
Rates vary from 1350 for 10 classes to 2000 for 40 classes.
Again you cant apply for a license until you have a valid RP(residence permit)which takes about 1 to 2 months.
as for your existing license you can get it verified by the local authorities and if thats approved then you don't need to go for classes.
You can directly apply for a test.
Will check upon it today and let you know.
You can rent a car and drive it if you have an international license.
No idea about rental rates. In case you need a cheap rental I know this guy who will give you a good rate.
I will check about the price for a Yaris and let you knw in some time.. Though cabin crew are not allowed to take loans from most banks out here.but HSBC does give vehicle loans as far as i know.
Hope this helps...
Lemme know if you need to know more...
Take care
hmmm
Lord, keep Your arm around my shoulder and Your hand over my mouth
have things changed so much that when you apply for a job you don't get this information up front?
I dont understand why you have to ask a public forum .. !
I'm serious - if you are joining a company surely you know what you are going into before you accept the job, don't you?
Lord, keep Your arm around my shoulder and Your hand over my mouth
"You join at the right time cuz they will increase your salary next year..."
I meant this year (in a few months) I totally forget that we are in January already.
La Mer,
Slow down. As soon as you report in to the Qatar Airways office for on your first day they will take away your passport and you will not get to see it for a month cuz they will try to get you a work visa. They will then give you a photo copy of your passport with the entry stamp page to doha. That is that copy that you can use to get your SIM card with QTEL. When you get to QTEL make sure that you tell them to make a new copy of your Photo copy passport cuz you will not be able to ask for a new copy with HR when you actually used them all up.
As for QTEL location you can look it up on the following link or just tell the taxi to take you to Lu Lu Hyper Market (QTEL on second Floor) or City Center Shopping Center (QTEL on second floor also I think)
http://www.qtel.com.qa/PrepaidHala.do?prodtype=1 Look at this link for more details about Halla prepaid SIM card
For Qatari driver license, you do need to have your work visa to get one. Unless you are willing to get a temporary driver license which only valid for a few months but it is the same price as a five years license so I suggest you wait for your RP (Work visa) As a cabin crew you will get free transport to and from work (Official business) so I think you should wait a bit longer on buying car. And yes, you do need to have RP before you can finance anything unless you are willing to pay cash. If you still want to drive then you must bring along your International Driver License from your home country. With that license you are allow to drive in the country(Qatar) for 6 months, but most rental car company will only rent a car to you for 1-2 months maximum with INTL Driver license. It's all varies with each rental car company policy. For a small compact car rental rate you can pay from 1,600 - 2,000+ Qatari Riyals per month. (Nissan Tida, Honda City)
Hope that these information are some what helpful to you and goodluck with QR. You join at the right time cuz they will increase your salary next year. I'm not going to tell you how much, but everyone is happy so far.
Dear Telljax,
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH for your very kind and professional advice. You are a genius!!!
I am wondering are you attached with QR? This is because you know very well of the conditions.
Thank God the apartment is clean, neat and tidy. This is because I used to live with a girl that never do housework in her live. So you could imagine what "drama" I had.
But I do need to pray hard that I have nice new flatmate(s)...
It is great that all the cooking utensils are provided. I intend to bring some spices from my country so I can cook.
Highly appreciated if you could kindly further advice on the Q - Tel mobile prepaid sim card again. I need to bring a photocopy of my passport and / or QR ID. Where could I purchase it? Please advice location(s).
Do you know how could I get Qatar driving license? I have driving license from my country of origin. What are the rules and regulations? How about the documents needed? Where I could learn driving in Doha? I am not very good in driving. Especially parking. Poor me...
In addition, could you kindly advice how much a Toyota Yaris would cost in Doha? I intend to purchase a small and economical Japan car. Is it very expensive?
Your kind advice is highly regarded and appreciated.
Thank you once again.
Have a happy day!!!
error on your date might not be such a big issue . However its still better to get it corected just to be safe.
hey
La Mer,
Here you go,
1.The apartment they usually give you would be a brand new accomodation .Depending upon the building you couls be in a shared accomodation with 2 or 3 other flatmates but never more than 3.The house is usually tidy since they regualry have checks upon the condition of the house and incase its not clean the tenants are warned about it.
2.The apartment is fully furnished. Couches,TV, AC's, beds curtains wardrobes everything will be given to you.
even cutlery items are provided like plates, glasses, pots and pans.
The kitchen has enough cupboard and also a Fridge.
Not sure about a microwave but a stove is definitly provided.
Basically you are given everything you might need to cok or stay in a flat.
3.Most of the time when they recruit a batch they put them together in the same building. But in very few cases they might put you up in a place where people are already staying.
4.To purchase a sim card you cand irectly goto Q-TEL here or their allocated outlets her.
You need to show your passport copy or your Qatar ID card and they give you a sim card on the spot.
The usual charge for a HALA card is 100 QRs = approx 28 USD.
5. Not sure about this but as far as i have checked the trainess are told to wear formal wear during their training period.
6.You get your uniform after your medicals are done. It doesnt take much time.I think about a month.
Probably after you get your uniform you are required to wear it to training.(again im not sure but will verify )
7.Training usually lasts for 3 months and as far as i know its not difficult.
People i know have studied the night before the exam and done quite well in it.I dont think you should be worried about the training at all.
8.Just follow the company rules on timings and what time you go in and out of your accomodation.perform well at your job and im sure you wouldnt have a problem whatsoever.
9.They have a critera which you should follow when it comes to grooming.
Tattoos and piercings are taboo but again it depends on wether its visible when your in uniform or not. They do train you for grooming as well so u need not worry about it.
If they do find something wrong then they will let you knwo about it and ask you to correct the problem.
Hope this helps...............
Highly appreciated if anyone from QR Flight Attendant(s) could advice on the following matters:
1) How is the condition of the shared accommodation? Is it clean, neat
and tidy?
2) Is the apartment fully furnished? How about the kitchen? Any
microwave, cooking stove, refrigerator etc. I love to cook.
3) Will QR assign me to stay with the same nationality or not?
4) Where can I purchase a Q-Tel mobile prepaid SIM card? What are the
documents required? What I should do?
5) Should I bring more formal attire (i.e. business suits) for the
training?
6) When will I get the uniform? 01 month or less... I heard from my
friends that other airlines gave their Flight Attendants on the spot
and they only wear uniforms for training.
7) What is the duration of the training? Is it very difficult?
8) What I should be aware and caution of?
9) How is the the grooming standard? What is the "taboo" the Grooming
Officers dislikes...
Any kind and professional advice is highly regarded and appreciated.
Thank you very much!!!
i hope u will not get in troubles in airport.. :)

Thank you very much for all the professional information.
I received my visa today and air ticket today. Yippie!!!
The was a typo mistake on my date of birth printed on the Qatar visa.
The actual should be 01st August. It was printed as 10 August...
Do you think I will have a big problem when I pass through the immigration?
Sent an e-mail to advice regarding this matter. No reply from QR yet.
Highly appreciated if anyone could advice regarding this matter. As I cannot speak Arabic language at all.
And do not want to look for trouble in foreign country.
Thank you very much once again.
Have a pleasant day!
Your hand luggage( to carry on board is 7 kg).
The cargo( luggage you have to check in) is 100kg max.
lemme knw for any further info.
As a cabin crew you are allow to have 100 Kgs of luggages as joining entitlement. This will be an accompany luggages. No further cargo allowance will be provided. As for hand bags you have to follow the normal rules which is around 7-10 kgs.(I think) Check with HR again for specific joining entilement. Also, your joining ticket is confirmed so you will get on that flight for sure.
QR Crew
