Q-Tel blocks official website of Qatar

Abdulrehmansajid
By Abdulrehmansajid

Hey everyone. Isn't this a joke that the official website for the Qatar Tourism Authority (www.experienceqatar.com) has been blocked by Q-TEL :D

Q-Tel blocks the Qatar Tourism Authority website!

Updated by Admin: Q-Tel is the only ISP in the country. Here is what it Experience Qatar really looks like:

thanks for the valuable comment yousri :-0000000000000000

ExperienceQatar.com is NOT the official site of Qatar Tourism Authority. The official site is http://www.qatartourism.gov.qa/

which you will easily notice has the SAME design. What does it mean? Maybe something went sour with the deal between the Lebanese designer and Qatar Government. Maybe they didn't pay him, so he didn't transfer ownership of the site to them, and now gets money from senile google ads.

On the other hand, it looks like nobody gives a damn about the official site www.qatartourism.gov.qa

If you go there and click on Events , and then Future Events you will see events from the year 2007

http://www.qatartourism.gov.qa/futureevents.html?linkd_17

I think QL is a much better promoter of Tourism to Qatar than the official Qatari site. Yey!

It's all very interesting why it would be blocked? Surely the Qatar Government does not own the site BUT ...

it was designed by a Lebanese guy in the Netherlands according to his website

http://www.atrissi.com/qatar/1.htm

http://www.atrissi.com/qatar/28.htm

And is this the map you guys are talking about?

Dear All, I can provide an explanation, and hopefully presuade you that Qtel has nothing to do with it. I know web programming and techniques very well.

First, let's notice the Google advertisement header on the website, as shown above in the screen capture. Now do you think the Qatari government need few hundred dollars to be earned from that ad? No way Jose !

Second, with a simple IP filter, a web programmer can show whatever content he/she decide for a particlur IP, even if you access the same web address. (IP is a unique computer address, and can easily be recognized from which network or country your computer is). So whoever has access to that website, decided to block it from some (IP segment of the home users) and keep it running for others (IP segment for ADSL business users), perhapse to keep some income from that google ad.

This is my theory, the owner on the website, named P.M. Klok, is blackmailing the Qatari goverment agency for the ownership of the domain name. They did not pay him enough to take ownership, so he is playing around. The new web address mentioned above is a .qa address, and it can only be given through official channels in Qatar.

The problem is this, millions if not trillions of publications have already been printed with the old address, as the person who bought the Qatar map above. They should have paid the owner what he asked for, it is alot less costly than slamming the door in his/her face.

Qtel has nothing to do with it, the Qtel banner which is displayed for some of you, is copied and pasted by the website owner. Now I must go to pay Qtel bill before they cut the service, I am sure they will give me discount for writing this reply, or even solve the puzzle on behalf of their experts.

look johny i dont think that its done by some hacker or some one else as almost every 1 is saying thta this is blocked by qtel only in residential ADSLs right. But what the bloo*y hell is this. infact i dont get it that the people n homes usually need it more for viewing Qatar right?? And in the offices we are often busy right??

then if the qtel was to block on one side so it must be blocked for the offices. But whatever Those sites r blocked by qtel which contain Adult content right??? but what kind of 18+ is situated in this site.. well if u think that after deleting ma cookies, it will work??

Its still not working>>

Yep it's not blocked in offices.

That's the super old site and is out-dated so they've blocked it while creating a new one.

Just spoke to Qtel and they are saying only lease line customer can open and home users cannot

They got the request from the ministry who are hosting the site to block it as they are making a new site and this particular one has not been updated for a long time

Thexonic - The site is blocked.

Abdulrehmansajid - The site may contain useful information of Qatar which is very helpful and Qatar may not have such site but still it cannot be called an official site of Qatar.

I dont think its blocked, cuz qtel's block sign is a proper picture, this one is probably a joke by some hacker or something.

yeah but what u think means the official web site of qatar infact qataris dont have have even one in english. this mustnot be official but you can see if a man is having a visit in qatar so what will he do. simply go to the google and write qatar ova there and search it so u can see this link is about experiencing qatar or traveling and it seems thta they have well knowledge of tourist attraction in qatar ova there right so this could be called as official for travel and tourism as you said......
