Pork meat during Asian Game ?

A friend of mine will come for Asian Game in Dec, but the only meat he eats is pork, but we all know that's impossible here to buy or to sell pork. He is very worried about this issue now. Any one has an idea about that issue ? It's small thing but for my friend it will be a big thing. Thanks.

Better tip is to get the butchers where you buy it to label it veal or chicken. They will happily do that in Dubai and Bahrain and then it doesn't matter if it has a bone in.

I brought some spare ribs back the other day. Delicious

Importing alcohol has always been a no no and it is usually confiscated even though it has been available in the country on licence for years.

Regarding pork products, every now and again customs had a purge on it and threw it round the arrivals hall shouting and screaming but gladly those days appear to have gone. The expat women used to arrange a bacon trip to Bahrain at Christmas. Tip....have a pork joint boned as the bones show on the Xray.

In the late 70's and 80's when pork was confiscated, you could buy it back at a supermarket over the road from the airport roundabout (I think it is now the Pizza Hut)

I am sure the rules will not be changed for the Games, but I am also sure that some people will continue to 'smuggle' pork products into Qatar. Your friend needs to decide how important pork products are to him!

Well, I think it's not allowed to get pork meat into the country. I asked my colleague about it and he said that he saw some people in the airport carrying bottles of wisky or whatever and they were asked to leave them because it's forbidden.

Anyway, why don't you call the airport and ask the cutomes about it?

Maybe people in DAGOC can tell me something about it ?
