Dubai Police to impound speeding cars for 30 days.

I think this should also be done here in Qatar, what do you think?

Xena - do what a friend of mine does. Put your car in park, get out, go back and ask politely "What did you want?" Of course, the answer (if intelligible and/or repeatable in polite society) is usually "you should have gone". Mostly though at this point it's absolute gibberish and everyone behind the idiot is honking at him.

I've often been tempted to try it.

I have always been a confident driver, but in the last few years in Doha, I have become a nervous wreck... Not like me at all.

Whenever I have to go somewhere, I first find out the time to be there... I won't drive between 6pm and 9pm unless its an absolute emergency - I would rather kill time at work, even if I am done, till the roads are quieter, than go out and get crushed in traffic....

You know what really p's me off... is when waiting at a R/A and there is traffic coming from your left, and then the twat behind you is hooting at you to go.... If only I had full insurance coverage, I would let my car run back into them... Patience is a virtue - wait till i think its safe to go and then I will go... I won't drive just because you are hooting...

I actually get satifaction out of making them wait!

How about this, impound the car and take the license away from the person.

Yes it is - promise :) that's why i wanted to give him a good kicking round the back of toys r us.

Lol Colt so true.. If you can drive in Delhi, you can drive anywhere else :P

Difference is, in Delhi we didn't even stop for minor bumps or fender benders.. It was normal and everyone has got a dent in their cars, lol..

Not only do the men come behind you flashing, the women do that too :-(, the only difference being, the women do it in the slow lane :-))

I have seen 2 accidents this week, that happened in front of my eyes. Both were similar, the LC in outside lane of 3,cut through a gap in middle lane and collided with a car in inside lane, who was doing nothing wrong. On both occasions the guilty driver laid into the innocent driver,as if it was their fault. Both LC's were driven by men in local dress and the other drivers appeared to be of Indian or similar origin ( I don't really know for sure, but they weren't local) I wonder who got the final blame, hey?

WK speed radars are not a problem, drivers are :)

By anonymous• 2 Nov 2010 09:50
anonymous

Those speed radars create even more problems, People drive at 160-180 then brake suddenly to come down to 120 when they see a camera.. Rubber marks all over the road and plenty of accidents. Though I do agree that if we make a comparison then Shamal road will win hands down

By KHATTAK• 2 Nov 2010 09:49
KHATTAK

WK...I saw a lot of Speed Radars on that Dubai-Al Ain Road during my last year visit...honestly, it was better than Shamal Road here.

On Dubai AL Ain road, I am sure there is a ghost of some late Formula 1 driver, everyone puts pedal to the metal there :(

wat to do asif, even if we're the most careful driver here there will always be an idiot one that will cause an accident.

By Oryx• 2 Nov 2010 09:14
Oryx

You are right he did...and he bashed two other cars that had kiddies in the them.... I wanted to take him round the back of toys 'r us and give him a pasting....

no checking on the passengers....

By KHATTAK• 2 Nov 2010 09:14

LOLzz Oryx. You summed it up.

Btw, these are the reasons why I dont deliberately hit the slow movers. I think, I should go for a spare car, just in case? :P

true SNM once i stopped on a red traffic light in the roudabout suddenly a south-indian came a banged be from back bcoze he was on his cellphone and was excited if he would not get the chance to enter into the roudabout due to heavy traffic. FUNNY indeed and i had to goto marroor and keep my car in industrail area for two days. its true the victims suffer and te offenders just pay the money and walk home.

By anonymous• 2 Nov 2010 09:09

i'll appreciate if this rule apply to below 80 speeding drivers too.

oryx, and that idiot will just tell you "No Problem" after he causes the accident and your car is damaged.

THIS REALLY A PERFECT IDEA, IF QATAR WILL IMPLEMENT THIS TYPE OF ROAD POLICY FOR SURE ACCIDENT WILL REDUCE.

I know - its my life that is being endangered here...

and lets say its a fender bender nothing major

a. victim has to go to insurance company

b. victim goes to madinat khalifa

c. victim's car doesn't get repaired with original parts

d. victim does not get free hire car.....

e. victim has to take care to industrial area...

Its just such a hassle....cos some idiot is on a mobile phone....or something

Happened to a friend of mine in Dubai. Problem is, he has 2 cars. Take one away, he uses the other. Same would happen here :o(

indians especially the nissan sunny owners drive like zombies even after seeing a car coming fast they will enter in the speeding lane without indicators and may end up getting hit by another car

I have been to Delhi Tinker! I couldn't even cross the road at Connaught Place....Luckily people took pity on me and helped!

So I know that the traffic is a gazillion times worse in Delhi but two wrongs don't make a right.

By somwerNdmiddle• 2 Nov 2010 08:57
somwerNdmiddle

oryx, the offender should take that quiz in the Traffic Dept not online, they may have a chance to cheat (that is haram) :P

By KHATTAK• 2 Nov 2010 08:54

LOLzzz Oryx. I knew, you wont hold it on for long :P

By asif_khan• 2 Nov 2010 08:52

i see these things almost everyday but we cant help it.

By Oryx• 2 Nov 2010 08:51
Oryx

Haram - don't bring religion into this!!! (LOL)

OK now you can all shoot me - Indians a lot of them are crap drivers who have no idea about road rules and no courtesy when driving.....

As they are the majority population here then driving campaigns need to be also in Hindi not only Arabic/English

When pulled off the road and vehicle impounded then any offender should at less do an online quiz about traffic rules and scenarios. Fail. You have to retake your test.

No point taking vehicles if the driver doesn't know what they have done wrong.

Obviously the driving tests are shyte too. One of my students passed his test and came to class. I asked what he should do in foggy conditions.....He confidently replied - put on the hazard lights. Now he is a bright lad....

The also need to whip the backsides of the driving schools.

I find that drivers driving too slowly are just as dangerous as ones that are speeding. Driving in the middle lane at 40kms an hour on an 80km road forces the traffic to splay either side.......In south africa them have a max and min speed on the roads.

Its ok for us on QL to complain about Qataris but if we mention who does this we are called racist....strange.

By somwerNdmiddle• 2 Nov 2010 08:36

why 3x tink? 1 offense is enough if you ask me, what if the first 2x that driver injured or killed someone?

By somwerNdmiddle• 2 Nov 2010 08:30

ukeng, let those cars/vans be impounded if caught speeding, that will serve as a stern warning for all drivers.

yes, but it will teach them a lesson..

In Riyadh, the car pound is about 5 kilos outside the city.. It's a pain just to go there and get your car back..

Harsh lessons work well...

Err half of the drivers speeding may Locals but in my experience I found certain nationailty which is the biggest in numbers here, but wont mention are the worse of the worse and they do have a tougue and cheek about them..

Now if there cars/van are impounded they will lose thier jobs?

Great all for it! Some guy in a LC (not Qatari)- forced me off the road on Saturday.... he got one place ahead of me at the traffic lights. Terrifying.

Impound vehicle - community service for driver.

Tinks sorry to hear that! some days i actually don't go out in the evening because i can't face the driving.

Its been in practice since long in Dubai...one of my friend's car was impounded by the police for overtaking from the wrong side.

If implemented in Qatar, you will see a sudden decline in traffic congestion within the first week of its implementation. Police would be facing difficulties for having enough space to park the impounded vehicles.
