I would have checked the Water Pump(the pump might be broken and if that is the case if would make a slight noise), and Cleaned out the Radiator using a Radiator Cleaning Fluid.

If that does not help, I would have looked at the Radiator Fans, to check that they actually start and also changed out the thermostat.

If it is possible to remove the Thermostat and run it without- you would see if it makes any difference (I've done this on a couple of my cars to check that way if there is a thermostat problem.

check the radiator fan speed sometimes it the fan motor when heats up decrerase the speed...just a point am telling you..

1 shop i can tell you they are good and fast..if u on cinema signals going to mall roundabout just continue straight from mall roundabout till the next roundabout...b4 heading to roundabout on you right side the is a petrol station and the shop is there..

they will do computer checkup for you and tell you the problem and they are fast..

TIME CHANGES EVERYTHING

This car will have two electric fans on the backside (engine side) of the radiator, after you have driven it a bit on the road,(to get it to operating temp) stop and lift the hood, with the engine running and the AC on, check to see that both fans are running.

I don't think it is a thermostat problem if it only happens at highway speeds, it sounds more like a bad rad cap, not keeping the pressure on the system, or the rad is plugged either externally or starting to sludge up internally. There is a flush you can put in the coolant to help clean out the internal but it needs to be done as per the directions on the can.

if it was the water pump, you will see if leaking, if it is not leaking it is fine.

there r always 2 things by which car get overheat

1 - lake of engine oil and filter damage

2 - lake of water in radiator or if radiator pump dosent work

there is no other way by wich car get over heated

Hokey, buddy, i think this happens when as mentioned, higher speeds and higher fan speed of the A/c...i think i will take that to a good mech and get him to check this stuff with regds to coolant and radiator cap...before changing the radiator...

The engine seems to be overheating due to leakage of engine oil and increased friction between the pistions.

If this is the case (mostly in old cars or cars whose engine oil is hardly changed or sand in the engine oil) I guess changing the engine is the only way.

Since that is not possible they have only the foll option:

1. Start after sunset so that the engine is cool.

2. Drive around 80kmph they shoud reach the Qatar border in 4 hrs max.

3. Night time driving will need less A/C.

4. dont travel on a windy day as he will have to close the windows and without A/C it will be difficult.

Does it overheat driveing in city traffic, or only when on the highway at higher speed?

have you checked the coolant level? and is the radiator cap in place and working?

did ur friend do radiator cleaning and removed the thermostat. this is one possibility and can be done easily. actually it is a must. hope the oil is already changed.

other option is to have a weak/defective water pump.

the worst if there is a problem with the engine valves or the head gasket.

must change your radiator and the thermostat... if you go for nissan, it will really take some time... but for ordinary garage, it will just take 2-4days especially if parts are available...

you know what? its better to put some patience to fix the car well... as it will travel for a thousands of km, its better to be safe...

Hokey-Pokey, cheers for that mate...will check on that...its a I think 2001 car...and what you are talking about is Radiator Clogging right...will check that...i need to find a place where they will clean or rather wash the radiator...fan...and stuff...

Johny, I know, but this is a serious problem as per Nissan thats why, and its better to get checked thru a nice mechanic, so koi hain nazar mein...?

It could be a dirty or plugged radiator, has it been washed with a pressure washer? If you wash it make sure not to bend the fins of the raditor core or this will reduce the airflow through the raditor. Also make sure that the coolant is a mixture of 50% water and 50% antifreeze, (the antifreeze or coolant must be aluminum compatable).

If it is the thermostat that is sticking the engine will overheat and the gauge in the dash would red line. Personaly I would change the thermostat first and clean the rad fins with a pressure washer.

Never heard of the coating thexonic is talking about... sounds like a snake oil remedy to me,...

check the radiator pump is working or not

i dont think its a big problem

and specially check the engine filter and oil

check out the radiator is leak from somewhere or not

otherwise there is no problem

if u will go to the garage...huh they will tell u many problems and gave u a list of that to suck money from u

But that car is from Saudi mate, thats the catch...so thats why have to get it fixed before they leave back...

Thexonic yea i know but they might end up taking 2 weeks which is why i was looking for any presonal references to get the work done faster...so got any mates...with garages...or mechanics...

If you think it is a serious problem,then you should avoid using this car to go to saudi,even if it is fixed , as it is a long trip and if you get stuck somewhere it would be difficult.

Ksarat in that case the best thing to do is to take it to nissan and let them sort this problem out, they might need to change the radiator.

Thexonic: Dude you are talking about Coolant Fluids I think, if thtats the case, I really dont think that is a solution, bcos Nissan had done a test on the car and they came up with temps of 104 Degree and 108 Degree, which is a very serious problem...

THey need to do a few things.

First of all, ask them to take the car to shampoo place, they put this coating on the front, above the engine to keep the engine cool.

Secondly, I saw a few liquids at some mechanic stores that they use in the radiator to keep the engine cool, instead of using water. BMW and Mercedes has this kind of Liquid coolent, I dont know if it will work for maxima. These fluids keep the radiator really cool. Check them out.
