PayPal and debit cards

Hi there. I already have a PayPal account with a Visa credit card linked to it with no problem at all. But now I want to link my debit card, which is acceptable by PayPal, but I can't seem to link it. I was on the phone with a PayPal representative for an hour approxamitely and we found out later on, the debit card did not link was because the bank (QNB), kept on rejecting. I was furious and called QNB and explained my situation. QNB explained to me that they do not allow internet transactions by debit cards, even if it is allowed by the seller (in this case PayPal).
I've read in a post here, that someone linked their debit card to PayPal via QIIB. So my question is, has anyone added a debit card to PayPal from Qatar and from which bank? QNB really pissed me off!

People mixing Credit n Debit cards all over the comments :D Guys, Any 'Credit' Card works fine with PayPal. It's just the 'Debit' Cards that have problems with. PayPal doesn't every Debit card, though they say.

I still operate my QNB credit card verified PayPal account, but the credit card was cancelled long time back due to unfair charges by QNB. Stay away from QNB and am a happy person now without any credit cards. Of course I only withdraw funds from PayPal earned for my on line services.

How did you manage the 4 digit activation code? I have a debit card and PayPal accepted the card. But when I check my online statement it mentions "ATM Transfer only". The bank did not include the activation number sent by PayPal. So although PayPal lets me to use my debit card, it is still waiting confirmation. Thank you.

This is a way to attract people to have a Credit Card Account

Having a Paypal/Internet Account linked to a Debit Card is much safer that having it linked to a credit. Because the limit of Debit card is only up to the "amount available" in your Account....while with a Credit Card the limit is much mu ch higher.

Thus if your Paypal/Internet Account gets hacked the the person with the Credit Card stands to loose way more than he would loose with a Debit card especially here in the GCC as people transfer much of the money back home regularly.

People also do not realise that Credit Card is a liability by itself. Its in effect a loan that you have agreed with the bank.

I myself have refused to subscribe to a Credit Card.

Arien the banks want a virtual card to be linked to a Credit Card but not a Debit card. At least QNB requires that.

I just cannot understand why they would like to link to money that you DONT HAVE .....rather than linking it to money that you HAVE "in the bank"

Hello,

I personally like to have my debit card inaccessible through internet, because it makes it safer.

To solve the problem with PayPal or any other internet purchase, I was forced to open a special credit card account using a deposit with an insurance value. This way I can spend up to 6,000 QAR (the deposit limit I chose) through this credit card without any credit charges. It is like using part of your own account as a credit card account. Then the debit amount is taken from your savings account on a monthly basis.

The only bad thing about it is that you have to place a 50% insurance for your limit (don't know why?), but this is returned back when closing the credit card account.

Some people, me included, would prefer to spend money they actually have(hence a debit card) rather than money they don't have and have to borrow(a credit card)

I only use my credit card in extreme emergencies or when there is no alternative.

If you live by the credit card, you die by the credit card.

not including the victims of Noah's flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the

many plagues, famines, fiery serpents, etc because no specific numbers

were given. Satan - 10."

Hi aboodchy, I have a debit card with IBQ and that works fine with PayPal. If this is important to you, you may want to consider moving banks.

westbayboy can you explain the reason for asking aboodchy the questions you did? What would be your answer either way?
