Paris Anyone?
I need an idea where to stay in Paris? We going there in the summer for 5 days? Any recommendation for the best area to stay with regards to sightseeing, restaurant, shops, transport. Obviously 5 days is short with so much to do and see, so staying in a location that has most things on the doorstep would be an advantage.
Thank you in advance.
Why, England of course, avec les roast beoufs!!!!

to eat heavenly food, go to Alain Ducasse, best chef, love him.
of course there 's Guy Savoy, Taillevent
oh Le Baron Rouge-atmosphere is great..
for cafes and bar, go to Cafe de Flore or Les Deux Magots.
must try...
if u have a kid, take him to Disneyland Resort Paris.
my favorite hotel in Paris is Hotel de Crillon.best location, best restaurant, spacious room.
House as it was right on the metro and loads cheaper than the Champs Elysses/Eiffel Tower areas. It was nice and quiet too and in the center of town. The Paris metro is fabulous and very easy to use. The lists everyone have given you are great. Also we enjoyed a day out at Versailles. We actually thought the gardens were more interesting than the inside. Oh also the Sacre Coeur at night really is fabulous. The view cannot be beat. We got lost trying to find it however.

www.parisattitude.com, you will find many suitable apartments, villas for rent in this website. Some are real cheap, with kitchen and all the facilities.
Transportation... Bus/ Metro are economical (you can get a pass for a week, available at all Metro stations) and you can get a cycle too.
Stay somewhere near Tracodero... Which is near the Tower Eiffel, metro is connected to all the places you have to see in paris.
Paris night life is wonderful, plently of places to eat and drink.
1. Musée d'Orsay
2. Centre Georges Pompidou
3. Cafe Marly at the Louvre
4. Rue Montorgueil
5. rue de Seine
Bonjour madame..First you have to learn say "bonjour" back to everyone who say it to you..otherwise not polite! To go romantic resto in d eve (most of them are) wear sport shoes or flat sandals, and keep your hig hells in the bag, change your shoes when you are 5 meters away from the resto. Museum d'orsay is a must.. hmmm..so many things..i'll tell u when i meet u novi
Whenever I stay in Paris with my little daughter we always stay at the same place on the left bank. The left bank is cheaper than the right bank and more arty. Also, you can walk all over central Paris from the left bank. The arrondissements I would suggest are the 5th and 6th in the St Germain district.
We always stay in the Hotel Villa d'Estrees which is near the Louvre and is on 17 rue Git-le-coeur, 75006 Paris. You can find it on the net. It is a little on the expensive side but you can find plenty of cheap hotels in this neighborhood.
Bonne Chance!

good evening Genesis ... yes i would be going with the family (3 of us) and will be taking a train from St.Pancreas in London to Paris.
Thank you very much for the insight of Barcelona i asked few weeks back ... our hotel are sorted. And looking forward to that trip (we will be doing 10 days in Barcelona and 5 days in Paris).
Yes i prefer doing the holiday on foot. I dont do shopping that much, we just love sighseeing and exploring new places and somewhere different.
From all the replies on here ... it seems 5 days wont be enough to see everything ???
I'm assuming you'll be going with family. thus, i highly recommand Citadines Apart'Hotelhttp://www2.citadines.com/index.html;jsessionid=adbKK4mwu9bwe83mVqGKrIt's a 3 star hotel chain, most of the properties are centrally located. My personal favorites are the one in les halles & Saint Germain. Le marais, Saint michel & Montpartnasse are a must. Upon arriving you must visit WHsmith bookshop in rue de rivoli to get a copy of timeout magazine for an updated happenings throughout the city. The best restaurant/cafes in paris are in the 1st/3rd/ 4th arrondissement. Paris Metro is perfect & easy. However, paris is best enjoyed by foot. If you stayed in les halles you can walk to all the important sites (Notre dame, le louvre & le marais jewish quarter)Nothing beats taking a stroll in Rue montorgeil with its food markets. specilaity food shops, small restaurants/cafes & trendy shops Paris best shopping is in saint honore with long string of boutiques & the must visit concept store "collete"I hope this is helpful
thank you all for the very helpfull comments ... keep it coming. Very much appreciate that.
And I was thinking of Paris Hilton.................
O my mind...
Accomodation: If you like fancy hotels close by to must-see, you'll have to go to Champs Elysees. There are main ones, and there are smaller ones in side streets.
For reasonable hotel fare, you can stay 7-6 kilometers away from heart of Paris, in Boulogne. This area has many hotels with Metro station connected to Trocadero Street (where Effile and tons of bistros/cafes exist) and Champs ELysees.
Initial Sightseeing: Best and faster way to get around on your first day is to stop by the "Tourist Help" kiosks. They will provide you with a map, guide and you can pay for tickets (very cheep, around 20 Euro) to the Yellow Bus (tour bus). It will take you to the all attractions (Effile Tower- Musee D'orsay- The Sein River - Arch de Triomphe- Notre Dame Catherdal...etc.
For shopping: Lafayette Street (leading to Opera Garnier, which you should visit if you like Oprera. If not, just pay the tour ticket with a guide to show you the inside of it) and the Huchette Street (20 steps away from Notre Dam Cathedral.
Bistros, busy live atmosphere and a lot of souvenirs: Quartier Latin. It’s a very ancient area too.
Romance: just stand by Sacre-Coeur (the sacred heart) at night!! Cannot get any better.
For Special French cappuccino and chocolate crepe..ummm that’s my secret..:))

Novita we stayed in Sofitel hotel right in the bottom of Champ elysses, evrything is near there, it's just a walking distance to the shops and the restaurants, ty there mussels it's very good, hmmmm miss that one!
i was there for 8 days and it was great,.. i took a place near montparnasse station and it was easy traveling..the metro was great you could go ne where in minutes..no traffic att all down their.. check out the ibis hotels in paris.. they are cheap and nice and you will find it everywhere.
We were fooled happy happy even after April fools day has passed..
Is the area where it would be more fun. It is the area where painters, antique shops and the artsy people hang out. Lots of small restaurants and hotels. It is cheaper than close to the Champs Elysees

And I'm like, isn't Novi just too generous ….lol

With the title of your thread, i though you were offering a trip to paris
Lucky you, enjoy and have fun.....
I've been there for 5 days too. It's was just enough. You will do notice that Paris is relatively 'dirtier' that other cities in, say, Switzerland or Italy.

Stay in one of the Hotels near Champs Elysees is my recommendation, there are loads of small Hotels in the small streets around L'arc de Triomphe - I've myself stayed there several times.
The Parisian Metro System is first Class and very easy to use and will get you around, no problems with Taxis either. I recommend you to buy some Travel books for Paris and sit down with your family to decide what you really want to see, The Eiffel Tower, Louvres etc are a must- but just the Atmosphere in the City is exceptional, spend a Day in small Cafe's and Bars- it is just great.
