Panspermia
Interesting research and interesting conclusions. Where did life come from?
----------
Aliens do exist and have been found living in the clouds above the Peak District, according to new claims by scientists.
Researchers from the University of Sheffield and Buckingham University claim to have found evidence for microscopic organisms living 16 miles up in the atmosphere between Chester and Wakefield.
The scientists used a specially designed balloon to gather samples in the stratosphere during the recent Perseid meteor shower.
They found the fragments of single celled algae known as a diatom.
They argue that this could be the first evidence to show how life may have arrived on Earth from space, perhaps carried here by meteorites.
It is not the first time organisms have been found in the atmosphere and indeed the skies are thought to be teeming with microscopic life.
Many scientists, however, insist these microorganisms are carried up into the atmosphere by storms and other natural processes.
Professor Milton Wainwright, from the department of molecular biology and biotechnology at the University of Sheffield who led the work, said: “Most people will assume that these biological particles must have just drifted up to the stratosphere from Earth.
“But it is generally accepted that a particle of the size found cannot be lifted from Earth to heights of, for example, 27km.
“The only known exception is by a violent volcanic eruption, none of which occurred within three years of the sampling trip.
“In the absence of a mechanism by which large particles like these can be transported to the stratosphere we can only conclude that the biological entities originated from space.
“Our conclusion then is that life is continually arriving to Earth from space, life is not restricted to this planet and it almost certainly did not originate here.”
Thanks dude. I watched this one already. Very interesting.
Thank you for that detailed information about ants , I've been hunting for some genuine info for quiet some time (seriously), but my point was not that ants are stupid creatures. What I was trying to convey was that , we tend to belive, discover and theorize , rest we blame it on God, whether good or bad.
And according to the 2nd law of thermodynamics,(forget it).
You should watch this

We are moving towards complexity. And indeed I believe that this same degree of complexity has been achieved by other organisms elsewhere.
Life has been found in most extreme places on earth. And there are two three distinct lines of microscopic organism depending upon what they consume. Some of them consume things like sulphur and arsenic. Some organism have been found in boiling water of hot springs and some have been found under rocks in antarctic. I 100% sure they can survive space. In fact, life has always been on move between different planets and comets in search of favorable conditions.
Ants are some of my favourite animals. Ants are awesome.
In inspirational context, these little ants can carry weight 10 times greater than their body. They don't die even if they fell from a the rooftop of a skyscraper. :))
For more you can visit this link http://insects.about.com/od/antsbeeswasps/a/10-cool-facts-about-ants.htm :))
They store grains for long periods in winter and if the grain begins to bud, they cut the roots. If the grains stored by them get wet due to rains, they take these grains out into the sunlight to dry and once these are dry, they take them back inside.
C.P. Haskins in “The Ants and Her World” writes: “In fact ants are little chemical factories continuously producing an array of substance called pheromones, that serves the ant language. Through these pheromones the ants convey messages ranging from location of food to the presence of danger”!
Very interesting creature indeed. :)
From ages we have faith that there is life outside our planet.
n1v9n, Ants are not so simple as you think my dear.
As per genetic analysis, ants first arose in the mid-Cretaceous period & have already survived a mass extinction event.
Ants have conquered almost the entire globe
Ants have a hive mind. They have an advanced method of communication among themselves.
Ants cooperate with other species
Ants practice slavery. They have a sophisticated system of division of labour.
The ants bury their dead in a manner similar to the humans.
Once in awhile they meet among themselves to have a ‘chat’.
They hold regular markets wherin they exchange goods.
I'm with RC here, I mean the universe is so huge and beyond our capacity to imagine or discover it's entire length. We would've discovered and researched bearly 1% of what's present in this Universe. The basic ingrediants for life is Energy,Matter and Space, everything we know about is a combination or a permutation of these three combinations.Alternatively, it's a very naive concept to believe that we are the only living creatures in this Universe.I mean come on it's like an ant claiming that the earth is flat. All it see's is what is in it's immediate surroundings,it doesn't know that there are organisms smaller than it neither does it realize the existence of the sun, stars or the meteorites.
You can spare some moments thinking in this dimension as well
According to the first law of thermodynamics, the physical properties of the universe cannot create energy. Yet energy exists. If the energy of the universe was not created naturally, then it must have been created supernaturally.
You can say science cannot test the supernaturals, but it does mean it is impossible for supernatural to exist.
I will leave you with two questions
Is it impossible for supernaturals to exists? if yes then where does the energy come from ?
Does reality exist?
You are right Adey, I did read a lot about Fine tuning & yes we humans are always very curious about the causes as we like to own it or change it after knowing why,how etc..
You can't say "The human mind looks for patterns and causes even when there are none there." as your statement contradicts the basic and first law of thermodynamics.
The human mind is the mechanism by which the universe knows itself - It is good thought but we are still not sure what 100% the universe is. Again mind has intelligence. Intelligence is again as diverse & complex as universe.
If humans didn't exist would the universe still be here? Yes as energy cannot be destroyed.
Your wonder at what is basically the Fine Tuning Argument (i.e. 'the whole universe is awesomely organized' & 'planning that went into setting up the universe') is deeply flawed. You are putting the 'cart before the horse' and looking through the wrong end of the telescope. The human mind looks for patterns and causes even when there are none there.
You will have to do your own research into the subject as it is huge ...but I leave you with 2 thoughts:
The human mind is the mechanism by which the universe knows itself
and
If humans didn't exist would the universe still be here?
Happy pondering and researching
In a very broad sense, the whole universe is awesomely organized, Universal laws, gravity, existence of sun, moon and stars, life cycles, food delivery system(it was nice,we humans made it a big hell), presence of good & evil emotions, tangible, intangible, visible and invisible signs of wisdom...the whole universe and each and every part of it has a sign/symbol and it comprises a true wisdom.. . We are from a tiny little droplet and our existence is also like a drop in a ocean but the same drop contains a whole ocean in it. :)
Bacteria have been shown to have survived in space, attached to spacecraft. http://news.discovery.com/space/record-breaking-microbial-star-trekkers.htm
Mr Rip Cord, I am not much of a religious person either but my common sense tells me, the amount of planning that went into setting up the universe. The planets, their orbits, life, death, everything around us, cannot be a coincidence. Its all a creation of a master mind, to which people commonly refer to as "GOD".
I heard this from someone "A philosopher's arguments about God's existence is like unscrambling of a spool of thread with a lost starter"
Here's how I see it.
Yeah, it says that God created human. It says how human was made in a very simple and generic way. In reality, God may have used all the resources available on earth to create human. This process will probably takes years, and years in the biblical concept have a different meaning.
This article just proved one thing. Scientists can't make up their own minds. I see two bunch of scientists arguing if life came from earth or life came from the outer space.
It's not even a conclusion.
Will be eve more interesting to know how many others will support this viewpoint and how it will be contradicted.
On a lighter note, some of us can agree with one of the Professor's conclusions, though obviously not in the same way he meant it : that life didn't originate on earth!
Aliens yes they exist, One time back home, I was sitting on the balcony watching people on the street, when a couple of aliens smelled my Turkish Coffee, they asked me to make two cups for "Take Away"
They scared the hell of me with their big weird eyes
Different names, different titles, different descriptions but the concepts are same.
Many of us knew this already. Aliens have visited us regularly since the beginning of time. The helped design the great Pyramids and the Nazca Lines in Peru..
They probably left their seed also ..
are you okay dude..
