Order Of Comments Within Forum Topic

Hi,

I am new member in this community. I'm really impressed with the way it is. And, I wish this community will grow a lot. I thought to write to you a simple suggestion on displaying the comments in forum topics.

Currently, the comments are listed based on the submitted date/time. FYI, when I open a topic, it displays the initial comment first and so on. So, to view the recent comment (when there are multiple pages), we had to click the "last" hyper link again. I believe the members are concerned to read the recent comment first. Is there any possibility to list the recent comment first? I am requesting this just b'coz I am really concerned about this community.

Please let me know if the comments are displayed like this for some specific purpose. Or, correct me if there is already a provision available to avoid this inconvenience.

Sorry for the long paragraph. I am waiting for your response.

Page number can be diaplayed on top also. At present it is showing only at the bottom and to navigate to the last page we need to scroll down the entire page.

No it does not slow down... Very few threads go beyond 1 or 2 pages anyway.

whyteknight, that's a good idea. :)

last minute thought...displaying all the page numbers might slow down. I think, first/last links can help...ur comments?

The page numbers should be displayed with the thread title in the list of recent posts so that I can immediately go to the last page by clicking on it, Order of comments is fine as it is.

ty tutor1. I really see ur concern....but, to my knowledge, people don't like to see restrictions/limitations. (note: to my knowledge) :)

True,

but unlike other forums, comments that answer questions in here on QL ( my experience ) start within the the topic itself and then start diverging to become sarcastic, jokes between friends, arguments, to going back to the topic and so on. So to me, you get the best related answers in the start again especially for topics that answer a specific question.

So that could work if they replace the Flag as offensive button with an "off topic/offensive" one.

let's say a new reader is visiting a forum topic..

of course, he/she has to be aware of what/where about the discussions...but it's a one time process for any new reader.

when the same reader involves with the topic and visits the topic again, he/she would be curious to read the recent comment (I believe) and it would be a repeated action. this is just my opinion. let's see what others says about it.

well I think the purpose to keep the 1st comment on the top is for the reader to know where the discussion started .... I feel this way very convinced.
