Ooredoo broadband and TV review

So we got Ooredoo broadband and basic TV installed a few days ago. Before I get into explaining how disappointing this product is, I should say that I don't have too many complaints about Ooredoo mobile internet. It is (usually) pretty fast, and the recharge cards seem to work, so that got me thinking that Ooredoo home broadband and TV would also be a good deal for 350 QR/month...

Wrong!

The experience starts with the installation. The guys that showed up to the apartment were nice, and the installation seemed to happen without issue. But at no time during my conversation with Ooredoo team on the phone or with these guys did anyone mention that the installation takes 2-3 hours. The installers showed up at 7:30pm and didn't leave until after 10pm. My wife, baby and I were sitting on the bed waiting to go to sleep when everything was finally packed up. I guess I should have known it would take a while, but still it would have been nice to be told it would take this long.

So immediately the TV starts crapping out on us. It freezes every 20-30 minutes, which means I have to reset the TV box. This isn't a huge problem, but the box doesn't always boot up properly (it freezes during reset), so I often have to reset it a second or third time. Frustrating. I've called the help line and logged a complaint and was told someone would get in contact with me inshallah.

The broadband isn't very broad. My apartment is two bedrooms, and we can only use the internet in the bedroom with the broadband hub. So...that sucks. Basically, I have to use mobile data when I'm in the second room, which I guess is another way Ooredoo gets money out of me.

Anyway, I'm disappointed and bitter. I don't think Ooredoo is an entirely bad company, but the broadband and TV deal is not worth 350 QR/month when it works like this. I guess the only option is to try Vodaphone? Ugh. Frustrating.

Ryan, All service people know / share your past treatment to them / their colleagues .......... so do you remember any incident where you may not 've treated them well ....... like not asking for a glass of cold water ? in a hot noon ....... ? ..........

Ryan / WT, We need to cultivate good working human to human relationship with each fellow who comes at our door be it a plumber / electrician / ac maintenance guys etc .......... Tea & biscuits are okay ....... but asking to drink beer that too on duty to somebody will definitely back fire you ........

Well it's been over 24 hours since I called, so not 5 minutes.

All you need is to call one technician & explain the issue. It needs minor resetting, may be 5 minutes max ...........

^Yeah, I could do that. But right now I'm a little bit like 'Ooredoo said this experience would be X and it is Y'. I shouldn't have to go out and buy additional items to create the experience that Ooredoo advertises. Ooredoo should redo its advertising campaign and tell people the truth - the Ooredoo TV device doesn't really work and the broadband connection is good for one room only.

Ooredoo is obviously trying to promote family togetherness by ensuring that the Wi-Fi is only available in the bedroom :O)

And, to avoid further disappointment: never expect any professional service from anyone in Qatar!

Or invite the manager to your home and let him experience the fantastic service first-hand. Offer him a beer, too.
