Olympics 2016: Doha being ommited from US coverage?

I have been noticing a trend in the U.S. media, whenever there is a story talking about the 2016 Games, Doha never gets mentioned.

Here is an example:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071031/ap_po/romney;_ylt=AniWbzhk57rQQ7nptH...

I was also watching CNN International and they also failed to mention Doha when talking about 2016.

Why do you think this is and what are your opinions?

its not only that but one newspaper spread some lies. They said that if Doha wins, we won't let Israel play.

The commissioner has already said that he hopes that this will strengthen relations with Israel. They'll go with any dirty tactic to stop an Arabic country for developing.

But will unlimited amounts of money actually make a difference. Unless it's under the table money I can't see it happening.

Also - there is nothing wrong with a bit of self promotion is there :) Qatar wants some love, so I say let them :) and Good luck to them.

That was just an example, this is happening more than in just this story.

Timbo, I thought this way initially but think the money factor does come into play. They really can afford to just throw unlimited amounts of money at this venture.

They also failed to mention Baku, Azerbaijan and Prague, Czech. I don't think there's a conspiracy. It's one article about a dude running for president.

scmasse yes I do. Not a hope in a million and Doha knows it. they just want some more publicity for the nation that no one has heard of. If you read the CNN article it does not make out the list is comprehensive, it reads to me like it was listing the serious contenders rather than the irrelevant also rans

You know... I think anything is possible. What harm does it do to try and bid? Apparently they will still build the stadiums etc... and you have to be honest and think that they ought to spend some of their wealth on something, hey i'm not a native to this country so I cant tell them what to spend their money on - perhaps an event like the olympics will do much good to this region? who knows...

By scmasse• 31 Oct 2007 15:08

Does that mean you think Doha's bid is a joke?

Anything owned by Rupert Murdoch and employing an idiot like BILL O REILLY, deserves to be laughed at. Bill O Reilly must be the most ridiculous, bigotted, narrow minded, mis placed patriotic clown ever to grace the TV.

perhaps they are only broadcasting the realistic contenders rather than the joke "lets get our country on the map" applicants?

He he - your probably right... Well at least we know what is quality news broadcasting and what isn't :D

You think CNN is bad you should check out Fox News sometime...

Erm, I hate to stir up anything but honestly, CNN international or not it's still quite biased.. propaganda about the Middle East is rife, they want it to be feared by small minded people who wont ever come and see for themselves.. I would trust, BBC or Al-Jazeera to be honest (even Beeb can be quite onesided sometimes)

All my opinion of course :D

CNN is an American Company, and my guess is Turner Broadcasting are sponsoring the Chicago bid, so you won't see it on CNN>

Well, it is CNN International...shouldn't they be a bit more "Global"?

Perhaps they are a little biased towards Chicago - they are one of the bidders too aren't they? We are a little country in the middle east that is not at war with anyone so I doubt we're big news to CNN!
