Mirrors are bad for you!

Looking into the mirror can lead to depression. Another psychiatric research which surprises.

Researchers say that looking into the mirror tends to lead to being miserable since you begin to focus on your negative aspects.

Is this true?

How many times a day do you look at yourself ?
Do you look into the mirror and exaggerate your negative aspects ?

I'd prolly be checking myself out around ten times a day. Most of the time I'm grateful for what I see though I do have my can't see beyond my flaws moments, God forgive me!

The question as asked requires that you should only answer about yourself or someone very close to you ....

Back to the topic.. Apparently , research says that women look at themselves about 32 times a day and men about 15.

Looking into the mirror naked may lead to depression as most of us, after a certain age, tend to add flab at the wrong places..

When I do that, it motivates me to continue my regular work-outs.

It is really interesting that for most of us, the discussion hardly ever gets out of our own selves. One in a hundred people would ever comment on what others do. Most only can think within themselves, and very rarely someone can think beyond themselves.

Under a normal mirror session the person tries to ensure s/he is the way the s/he would like h/er to be. The fact that human desire has no limit, s/he finds something lacking somewhere sending a negative signal to the subconscious mind. More so when all those wrinkles and crow feet grows more and more prominent with time.

So, I think the findings have some ground.

Could you give the details about the research? Where was it published? If you give a link, it would be awesome.

As to looking in the mirror at yourself, it all depends on your mood. If your mood is euthymic (normal), you will appreciate yourself in normal light, focusing equally on your good, bad and ugly points, without being much moved emotionally by it. On the other hand, if you are in a euphoric mood (elated or high), you will only see the good points. In fact, sometimes you would see strengths or allures in yourself, which do not exist in reality. This would only make you more happy. If you are depressed, you would only focus on the negatives sometimes even exaggerating them out of proportion. And this would, I need hardly say, lead to further depression.
