Ministerial vindictiveness re. Exit (and other) fees ?????

Further to recent posts on this, it just occured to me to ask - why was this introduced on the 25th of December?

A Tuesday. Middle of the week.

In the past, any visa rule changes have been introduced on the first of the month, or the first working day of a week.

But not this time.

Am I being cynical, or was the 25th December chosen for some other reason? e.g. to show who's boss round here?

In the absence of any ministerial explanation, I'm afraid that I shall think the worst.

Anybody knows diff., please advise.

Have a GREAT 2008.

when we called the Gulf Times on 25th December, they were not aware of these changes, suggesting that there had been no effort made by the authorities to ensure that those affected by the changes were given due notice.

As CB says, surely better to start on Sunday (30th Dec.), or maybe on the 1st of Jan.

And why no announcement in advance?

Even in KSA, when they introduced income tax (for about ten minutes) they announced it in advance!!

Hmm you might be right, however, wouldh ave been better to do it at the beginning of the new year.

As we are quite aware that the Government in all countries has to have its salaries paid they will increase fees accordingly, perhaps the 1st oof January would have been a better date.

Has there been an explanation of the 25th December imposition?

What's your take on this, qatex?

I think you are over reacting.

I've just read the complete fee list provided in the daily newspaper. Some are amusing, you have to pay 3000QR to apply for Qatari nationality! and 2000 to return it back!!!

I don't think it is vindictiveness I think some bored Ministers were brainstorming over the eid holidays and came up with this load of rubbish.

It will of course not go down well with the expat population being in fear of the new rent hikes and all other hikes going on, finally, and although I like Qatar they are loosing face.
