Men in Qatar

sammie1571
By sammie1571

Why do men in qatar have to be like a pack of hounds to a single female i know that it is lonely but acting like a pack of hounds is really not the way forward and off putting!

Men say that there is a shortage of single ladies but from a ladies point of view there is a shortage of polite men!

Haha ok 1pm then, you meanie. Mind it, you will have to catch me first :P :P

Or I could just call RSPCA.

How about 12.30 - 1pm? That means you have to choose either 12.30 or 1pm lol

By dohagirl• 20 Jul 2006 11:37

Cool, I can go to lunch at any time too. We can meet in the parking lot between Le Nortre and Starbucks, I drive a baby blue Hyundai Tuscon.

By Qatarcat• 20 Jul 2006 11:35
Qatarcat

DG I don't know what time your lunch break is, I'm flexible. Ramada junction? Maybe we could just meet in the parking lot somewhere in Le Notre area and then decide on the spot?

By dentist• 20 Jul 2006 11:32

it's on C-ring road after Ramada signal on your way to HMC, right across the street from Baggett

you mean it didn't work, QC? BUGGERS! mental note: next time mention something potentially more revolting like booger pie

okay okay no more! enjoy your lunch ladies, and the rest of your weekend everbody! i'm off to Dubai..!

By dohagirl• 20 Jul 2006 11:28

I don't know where that is

Now I'm starving but i can't go prepare food...have to wait for my wife to come back from work :(

Stop the talk about food...let's talk about war on arabs ....just kidding...please don't start

What the cannabalism didn't do that for you? Speaking of lunch, when and where?

good point, QC! except no one wants to know what is REALLY in their hot dogs, nuggets, etc..

btw who the hell am i to decide what's disgusting or otherwise? in my country people make a salad made of raw sheep liver, lungs, and guts topped with a peanut butter dressing. LOL

By dohagirl• 20 Jul 2006 11:05
dohagirl

Don't worry Mocha, seal flipper pie is disgusting.

By Qatarcat• 20 Jul 2006 11:00
Qatarcat

Well have you ever seen how pretty much ANY processed food is made?? You'd be even more horrified. Blood and cereal is like, nothing...

By mochafrap• 20 Jul 2006 10:56
mochafrap

have you ever seen how black pudding is made? i saw this thing on BBC food the other day. They get a huge container full of blood and pour it into cereal. I was horrified! lol

By Qatarcat• 20 Jul 2006 10:48
Qatarcat

Hey I like black pudding!

By mochafrap• 20 Jul 2006 10:45
mochafrap

strange. endangered fish, and excessive populations of seals. almost a paradox to people on this side on the world :p

i'm still not convinced about your seal flipper pie. but eh..i guess it can't be worse than haggis or black pudding..! :|

By dohagirl• 20 Jul 2006 10:24
dohagirl

Seals? endangered? Hardly, there's over 5 million off Newfoundland, and another 2 or 3 off the rest of Eastern Canada. We have a big seal hunt every year to kill some of them off so they don't eat all the cod...which are endangered.

By mochafrap• 20 Jul 2006 10:19
mochafrap

seal flipper pies?! big on saving endangered species, aren't we DG? LOL

By Qatarcat• 20 Jul 2006 09:57

Scottish accent makes my knees go weak... There is this Scottish guy working with my man, he has the sexiest accent in the whole wide world. Nobody understands a word he's saying, though, not even other Scottish blokes.

:p

By dohagirl• 20 Jul 2006 09:54

you know..call me weird but i'm suddenly reminded of fondue everytime i say "newfoundlound" (cheese = the tastiest smelly commodity in the galaxy)

errr...on second thoughts maybe i'm just hungry. nevermind!

By dohagirl• 20 Jul 2006 09:18
dohagirl

I know those aren't the only people who speak English Afro :D, those are just the accents that make my knees go week. And it defintely isn' the defintion of quality men. But you're right there are no tall ones. But then again to clairfy, my definition of tall is anyone taller than me and I'm 5 ft 6. :)

Mocha, I was born in Newfoundland so I was just making a joke. ;)

By Afro187• 20 Jul 2006 01:49

Well don’t rephrase my words. I didn’t said date ppl who can’t speak ur language I said .. there is tall none English/Scottish/Irish/Australian/Kiwi and (oh my god that’s wired) they can speak English (wooow) !!! so I hope the definition of the “Quality men isn’t only English/Scottish/Irish/Australian/Kiwi!!, laudgi7 about the bouncer Doha girl said it all.

By mochafrap• 19 Jul 2006 21:05

yeah he is kinda sweet for someone who gets paid to look intimidating. He's always extra polite with everyone.

why is it that people wouldnt marry newfoundlanders? is it because its just too much of a hassle to say newfoundlander? oh wait..saskatchwen has got to be even worse..lol

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 20:38
dohagirl

The bouncer from Paloma's lives on my compound. He's a really nice guy. His wife is really, short, chubby and about 15 years older than him, and from Newfoundland, Canada (the short chubby older doesn't matter but the Newfoundland does, nobody marries Newfoundlanders :P )

By mochafrap• 19 Jul 2006 20:11
mochafrap

oooh za moda's awesome.. whats the name of that fish market/restaurant thingie? yummmmmmmmmmm...(im a fish-eating-fish..should i be worried? :|)

paloma's okay..its your typical tex-mex kinda place. its usually packed friday nights and the crowd is almost always "interesting". dont know about their music selction though..

By Qatarcat• 19 Jul 2006 19:04
Qatarcat

I don't go to Paloma so I have no idea how the bouncer looks like. Is it a nice place to go to anyways? We usually just go to the fish restaurant or Za Moda in Intercon. Yeah, I know, yawn.

By mochafrap• 19 Jul 2006 19:00

Dohagirl ur dated its ur dated there is not racism in it, its some thing belong to u don’t get me wrong, but u can’t say there isn’t tall skinny ppl here that they can speak English!! U can just say they aren’t my type and no one should blame u for that !! I can’t say there isn’t any single western ladz here in Doha, but I can say im not what they lookin for

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 17:47
dohagirl

Also the amazing thing about all those nationalites is that the people from them aren't all white either, my last boyfriend was a Kiwi and he was black, so :P. You see in the West we have this thing called multiculturalism.

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 17:40
dohagirl

Afro, I don't care if they are white or not, I just listed those nationalites cause I love the accents. Otherwise, I can still say that I haven't seen many tall skinny guys of any nationality...except Indian labourers and they aren't so much skinny as empanicipated and they don't speak English. Sorry but I have to beable to speak to my dates, if that is racism, so be it.

By Afro187• 19 Jul 2006 17:30

Sammie1571 wat I do when I see a lady who I like … well the question should b like do I really c single ladz?? Well maybe I don’t know …single ladz ?? well tell me where to find one?? Tell me where to find single, not complicated, not racist, ready to go out?? And I’ll go!! until then any girl I c in the malls seem like single I just smile no tactics coz I can’t b sure shes single !!

Doha girl there is tall and skinny single guyz here in Doha but unfortunately they all arn’t white, im tall and skinny but im not white, im sorry not to be “tall, skinny English/Scottish/Irish/Australian/Kiwi

Angelo I know and its raining ladz in Thailand too, I got vacation coming up in this Sep I don’t know what to do with it should I just stay here in doha and take some Spanish courses or should I go back to Thailand

you'll see, QC..imma throw a bash and invite ALL my social circle and you guys of course are NOT allowed to come :p

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 12:41
dohagirl

All this talk of BBQ is making me hungry for Chilli's even though they don't have the baby back ribs. I think it's time to order my subway.

It's too bad you didn't say who bbq's tall skinny Americans, I had a really great bad joke answer for that. :(

By Qatarcat• 19 Jul 2006 12:37
Qatarcat

DG who in the world bbq's tall skinny anything? It's universal knowledge that you should go for short and plump, they're juicier.

We'll be bbq'ing some REAL stuff (the kind you only get at the base, lol). And I'm in for next week either Garvey's (never been) or Rydges (been once or twice). Pathetic, I know, lol

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 12:33
sammie1571

could we just mail order some guys? I think i will take about 7 one for each day of the week and i will not get board either but knowing me i would take the whole list!!!

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 12:29
dohagirl

Or are we going to bbq the tall skinny guys? :P

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 12:26

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 12:24

By Qatarcat• 19 Jul 2006 12:22

If you go tomorrow and like it and want to repeat next week, count me in. I am busy this Thursday though, will have a bbq with some tall and skinny guys from the american base :P :P

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 12:17
dohagirl

I always go to Rydges and we know how much talent I've found, absolutely none. I'm up for Garvey's I've only been once.

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 12:15
sammie1571

I must admit i start at Garveys just to see if there is any talent usally no but always find someone in there to have a laugh with! Where do you wanna go i am not bother either way up to you

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 12:12
dohagirl

LOL :D I know, I was extending the invitation, since I invited myself along with you Thursday night. Yes drinks sounds good. Where do you usually go?

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 12:10
sammie1571

Don't get me wrong i was not inviting myself just making a late answer to your question before! I work near the Ramada!

Are you up for drinks thursday night maybe?

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 12:05
dohagirl

Cool, and if you work anywhere near Ibn Seena or the Ramada you should join QatarCat and I for lunch to.

I know about work, while I was on vacation I had to go into the Canadian office to do tons of work, now that I'm back to work there is nothing for me to do but leaf through Marketing magazines. :P

PR, either crazy busy or dead.

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 12:03

Tomorrow it is then.

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 11:47

By Qatarcat• 19 Jul 2006 11:25

Oh that's sad, DG. There's always TG I guess, but if you are not interested on being on top (LOL) then there is always lunch & coffee today.

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 11:22

DG I never said I will sit at home with you this weekend!! :D :D

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 11:05
sammie1571

yeah but he is not single!!!!!!!

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 11:04
dohagirl

Ok, the question is whether or not I have reached the level of desperation to go for Sammie's sloppy seconds. :P Just kidding. He does sound my type though.

And Qatarcat, I will rephrase, there are no SINGLE tall skinny men in Doha. :D

Seriously Sammie, if you want to go for a pint this Thursday I'm up for it. Currently all of my friends are on vacation and my only friend that is here is going to Dubai this weekend and I am broke. :( So its either try to attach myself to someone or sit at home with the cat this weekend.

...I am so sad. :(

By Qatarcat• 19 Jul 2006 11:01
Qatarcat

That is of course me being very nice at not pointing out how discriminating your comments are to the guys who are NOT tall and skinny. You are so superficial! :P

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 11:00

By Qatarcat• 19 Jul 2006 11:00

Hey DG my husband is 2 metres tall and fit. So don't say there aren't any in Doha!

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 10:59
sammie1571

Take your point would put me off too!!!

My now ex is tallish and skinny and single still! British and cute, brown hair, blue eyes he's all yours if you want you will find him in Garveys at the weekend playing pool more likely we just drifted apart!

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 10:54
dohagirl

Yes sex is an interesting conversation especially since I think I forget what sex actually is :(.

No the only thing that bothers me about Americans is that I'm Canadian so we have that natural dislike for one another. And I'm such a total liberal I usually end up in arguments with US army guys, also wary cause I was punched in the face by one when I turned him down when he offered me a drink.

I swear there are no tall skinny guys in Doha. :(

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 10:49
sammie1571

Every right yeah you have that!!!! Sex is an intresting converstaion though so anyway as we go back to it:

Not the same ones these guys live in compounds and are ex army, marines etc very nice and as a lady you are the centre of attention but not in a bad way for example if there is only one shot of vodka left you get it as being the woman and thats not coz they want to get you drunk either which is a nice change!

No don't know any tall skinny english/aus/kiwi guys but will let you know if i find any!

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 10:41
dohagirl

:P QatarCat, the same thing happens whenever you or Sammie jumps into a conversation to. And in my case it has been 8 months of self enforced celebacy so I have every right to be frustrated. :P

They live in an apartment building. Mario and Sam are the only two names I remember.

You don't know any tall, skinny English/Scottish/Irish/Australian/Kiwi guys????

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 10:37
sammie1571

what did their compound look like coz they could be on the same one? Any names?

By Qatarcat• 19 Jul 2006 10:36

Have you noticed that whenever DG jumps into conversation, the conversation immediately starts revolving around dating and sex? Talk about frustration :P :P :P

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 10:35
dohagirl

I did know a group of firefighters, my friend dated one for a little while. They were ok (really cute), but really arrogant. That's a big problem with guys from the US military, they tend to start beliving their own propaganda. Though I did date a guy in Korea from Tennesse who was awesome, unfortunately he got shipped to Iraq a month and a half after we started dating. C'est la vie.

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 10:34

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 10:23

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 10:22
sammie1571

your more than welcome but they don't all get together every weekend as they are on different shifts and as long as you can party till about 5-6 in the morning you will have a blast oh and they are american!

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 10:19
dohagirl

Interesting...Maybe I should hang out with you on the weekend. ;)

By sammie1571• 19 Jul 2006 10:16
sammie1571

no they range from about 24-37 i think not all are cut but a nice range of them so it is pretty much like a kid in a swet shop! For example six packs have been seen in the group and i think one looks like a young version of JZ but thats me

By dohagirl• 19 Jul 2006 10:07

Well I guess I agree with u doha girl .. Qatar is a bad place for dating but still sucks for men only or lets say its lil bit bornin for girls but don’t u forget “its raining men here in doha everyday so u just step a way from ur umbrella and wait for next drop, but to us its really long way .. we have to travel to other countries to find some one that who might care!! Some place where females equals males

Afro I think you just need to come to the realization that I have come to. Dating in the Middle East sucks, regardless of gender. :D

Afro does have a point, but I think he has to understand where we are coming from. As I said before dating in Qatar (dating in Asia) is like walking through a minefield. We have to be careful and at times that comes across as being snobbish. I know what you mean about the dancing though. I have my grandmothers engagement ring and if I'm really not interested I switch fingers and tell them I'm engaged. :)

I know but household name? Pain in the arse comes to mind most! LOL

By sammie1571• 18 Jul 2006 10:50
sammie1571

No probs! Just i do not think like that and the shock factor is well and truely over as i find that afro has a point we do at times look like we are stuck up our own bums as you have to be soooo to the point as in not interested get the point and they don't we come across as rude maybe for example i was out at the weekend dancing having a laugh (with male friends) and i had to move at least six times but he still did not get the point and the fact i was dancing with men did not dawn on him one might of been the other half!!!!!

By Qatarcat• 18 Jul 2006 10:34

Sammie come on, "Sandie" is a household name now, it's only natural it slips out here and there. DG didn't mean it, I am sure :^)

Ya! Why should we stay at home? Aren't we entitled to a night out without being hounded?

Good to hear the shock is gone though Sandie, you get used to it. :)

I know i live in Qatar but i was just making a point! To be honest why should i stay at home away from the world? When i posted this topic it was from a shock when i ventured out but now the shock has gone and i was trying to understand a blokes point of view!

there is a very cute bar ...

where you can drink as much as you can ...

without being annoyed by bizarre men ...

this nice and cool bar is not away from ur living ...

it is the kind of bar that might move towards your destination ...

just drink at friends appartments ...

what i mean ...

try to avoid open places where u might be disturbed ...

simply, u live n qatar ...

Well doha girl im in the im not that type sorry to destroy ur estimation about me.. im not the type to run around after the girl in the bar, even that I know wat type of men u talking about they makin me sick coz they well make the other men appeared cheep and make it hard on the other I have seen this sick ppl they like if im not gona have her @ lest I’ll make sure know body els well and that don’t go only to doha its worldwide but u might be obvious here coz of the lak of the womanz matter of fact there is many problems coz of the lak of the womanz here .. + I don’t even go clubbin much like I use to do wats the big deal same faces same places 5-6 men and one woman and some times is worse than that

By dohagirl• 10 Jul 2006 20:30

One more thing, Afro you talk about how we women should feel special because there is so few of us and so many men. And that we are so proud? You're right I am proud. I have a good job and good friends. Am I proud about the attention I receive from men, hell no. If I received attention from men in a place where the genders were more equal, than perhaps I would be proud. In Qatar, however, I would receive attention regardless of how I look or act, and that fact makes me self consciouss and shy. I would rather have a guy interested in me because he likes me for who I am instead of being interested because I'm the only girl in the bar.

No offence, but you really have a lot to learn about women.

I just found this thread so I'm going to put in my two cents about sammies problem. First of all I totally agree with her. The guys come on WAY to strong here. And more than a few can get very territorial even if they just came up and introduced themselves at a bar. You talk to them for a few minutes than you want to turn away and talk to your girlfriends or other people (male and female) and they get all pissy, or follow you around the bar. I know you guys are desperate for girls but please cool it. Just because I put on a tank top and go to a bar for a drink does not mean I'm looking to pick up. If I turn you down it isn't personal, it's because I'm not interested in a relationship right now, the same goes for a lot of my girlfriends. We are here to work to. Honestly its this attitude thats turned me off from dating at all in Qatar. Just because we are in a foreign country does not mean that friends first and getting to know one another doesn't apply.

many definition for hound. Sammie yes some men hound and flirts, but the majority do not. Men do it with no reason except they might have a good date, but also one of stimualting reasons for men to flirt is the way the ladies wear or act. And please do not misunderstand my words. It is about the norms and culture.

This country has low % of "hounding" comapring to other countries in the Gulf and even some parts in US and UK. Please try to ignore it and enjoy ur life.

"Never doubt that a small group of committed ppl can change the world" Not my words :)

I once drove my wife to her car dealer's service center to pick it up after maintenance. We left in our cars at the same time as a guy who'd just picked up his and driving back from the industrial area I noticed he was tailing her so I dropped back to watch. She was clueless. At the former Food Center roundabout (the new underpass just before or after the Ramada signals depending on which way you're headed) she called me to say whe was going to the Family Food Center and I said fine. She went left and of course so did Pest while I continued on up Salwa Road towards home.

Half an hour later she came home shaken. She said Pest had tried to talk to her from his car, give her his phone number, blocked her car with his when parked, then let her out and followed her home. Next day I go back to the sevice center, get the guy's license plate number and name, head to Al-Sadd police station, they bring him in and ask me what if I want to press charges. I say no, that's enough.

These guys are pitiful. Schizophrenia...

I guess the simplest way to sum it up. Young and dumb. A pack of young men are fools, on there own no doubt kind and respectable. In time they will change. For now, smile.

By scmasse• 3 Jul 2006 16:47

hmmm, if you are having difficulties with the ladies afro, I think I might know why.

Anyway, this happens a lot in places where the men outnumber the women substantially. The men get way too competitive and out comes the old barbaric ways. Using their best "game" to try and land a woman before the next guy comes along.

I find it all very sad and am very glad I am happily attached:) But don't fret too much, you have the luxury of being very choosey. The "dogs" will be numerous, but won't it be worth it in the end if you find someone special.

Just my thoughts...
