Maid admits to stealing cash and jewellery

A Filipina maid faces six months in jail after she pleaded guilty to stealing cash and gold from her sponsor.

When 35-year-old M. T. appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance, she pleaded guilty, confessing that she stole Dh3,500, 1,600 Egyptian pounds (Dh1,050), six gold plates, a gold chain and necklace, a diamond ring, and a pair of earrings, as charged by the Public Prosecution.

The accused repeatedly said, "Yes, I did," to every charge of theft when the judge confronted her with the list of stolen items.

"I am sorry and I want to be sent back to my country," she pledged.

The 36-year-old Egyptian employer testified in his statement: "I found the stolen items in her possession. Upon confronting her with the stolen items, she confessed."

A 31-year-old Filipina housemaid claimed that she bought the gold chain and ring from M.T.

"She alleged to me that she obtained them from Singapore where she claimed she worked as a housemaid," the witness said.

Another 33-year-old compatriot housemaid testified: "I bought from her a gold chain and the earrings for Dh700 ... she claimed that she bought them from the Philippines."

theft or stealing happens everywhere...and not done by filipinos alone! seems that you have something against filipinos that's why you used this news to create an issue...so read on and perhaps realize that there are other news like your post that involve other nationalities!

A cleaner at a cinema in Bur Dubai has been accused of stealing a woman’s handbag. The bag contained a mobile phone and dhs1,500 in cash.

The case of the Bangladeshi woman was heard at Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday along with that of two compatriots who have been charged with handling the stolen mobile and assisting the defendant.

The bag’s owner, a 29-year-old Emirati woman, went to the cinema with her sister and said she lost her bag.

Manager accused of fraud

Monday 6 Jul, 2009

A manager employed to prevent embezzlement at a Dubai company went on to steal from his firm, a court has been told.

The case was heard at Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday, when the court heard the defendant, who is British, was responsible for implementing measures at Istithmar World, an investment arm of Dubai World, to protect it from fraud.

But at the same time, he is accused of stealing $1,340,938 from the company. According to police reports the crime was discovered in 2008.

“We recruited the defendant as a manager in one of our companies in order to put regulations and measures in place to prevent the other managers and the employees from embezzling,” an official from Dubai World said in a statement. “We discovered that he had signed a document to transfer money to a company in the UK and then discovered that he owned 51 per cent of its shares.”

The case was adjourned until next month.
