Yeheey!!!

Our very own "babe" CAT "Cornellian" donning a WHITE COAT & STETHOSCOPE and almost there to become a full-pledged DOCTOR!!!

We're with you ALL THE WAY, DEAR!!!

----------------------------

Would-be doctors don white coat at WCMC-Q ceremony

THE Class of 2012 at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, comprising 27 students including seven females, was inducted at the annual White Coat Ceremony yesterday. The event marked the traditional rite of passage where the fresh doctors-in-training first don the white coat and receive stethoscopes, the symbolic emblems of their new roles.

Hey everyone, just saw the thread actually and was like uh oh could that be about me ??? haha. Thanks alot Azi, and everyone else for the good wishes. It was funny to go through ur debates and confusion over what's happening. Ok so here's the deal...

We are (as of yesterday) Doctors-in-training; however, we're not qualified doctors yet, we will be in 2012. In the first two years, we'll be going more in depth with the theory as well as starting with going to the hospital. In the last two years, we start clinical clerkships, in which we're in the hospital full time rotating between different departments so as to give us a taste of each. At the end of the third year, we're off to NY where we continue our clerkships and finally received the M.D. :D

BritExpat, medicine in the UK takes 5 years; however, in US schools, it's spilt into two-stages (pre-med:4 yrs, med: 4 yrs).

If anyone has any other questions I'd be glad to answer :)

Thanks again guys!

And yes QT, this hermit has been hiding for a while with all that's been happening :P

Cornell has a 6 year program in Qatar. Students attend a "pre-medical" program for two years (some do three if they conduct research etc.) which prepares them for medical school. The classes are undergraduate, non-degree classes though they can be transfered if the student decides or must attend another school. When students are finishing up the pre-medical program the take the proper exams and apply to the medical college. If they are accepted they have four years of education that lead to the MD degree.

The first two years of medical school are "basic science" where the doctors in training learn about the physical systems of the body and how to perform an exam. During the third and fourth year of medical school the students start working in the hospitals so she still has a few years.

and best of luck in med school!

Guys, these grads have completed their 4-year degree in pre-med. Now they will have 4 years of med school, followed by an internship of 1 year and then their residency, which may be 3-7 (or is it 8?) years, depending on their specialty.

Cornellian finished with the theoretical course as PRE-MED and now would be doing the PROPER - MED COURSE.

Meaning, our Corne will be in in assigned in the hospitals on a shifting schedule, applying what they learn in school to the real battlefield (hospitals).

Don't you watch SCRUBS &/or GREY'S ANATOMY???

I think owen is right. SN, Cornie has been studding for at least 3 years by now, as I am aware. May be even 4. So most probably she has done her theoretical part, and now she will become as they called "interns", i.e. getting practical experience in the clinic under doctor's supervision.

Let’s wait till Cornie wakes up and clarifies the matter..:)
