Riots effect: UK drops 'You're invited' tourism advert

LONDON: With the ongoing riots inviting adverse publicity, Britain's tourism authority has dropped its slick 60-second marketing 'You're invited' video that was put up on BBC and other websites to attract potential tourists from abroad.

A spokesman for VisitBritain said: "We have taken the videos down, they are not appropriate at this time.

Mary Rance, head of trade body UKInbound, which represents businesses in the tourism industry, said: "The riots of the past few days, particularly in London, are most unfortunate for the global image of the UK - and not just ahead of the Olympics.

"With scenes of looting, violence and lawlessness flashing across TV screens across the globe it is absolutely vital that the government and its agencies, as well as the UK tourism industry, to work hard to put things in context.

I agree with Britexpat...the fact of the matter is well known to the British...those rioting; looting and whatever else are British whether white, brown or black. They are gangs; anarchists and nothing more.

The events have nothing to do with a particular race or colour or what is termed illegal immigrants.

There is disenfranchisement in society; a degree of fustration; social exclusion which has been taken advantage of by those involved in the criminality witnessed over the past few days and certain groups which are looking to make political changes.

Please stop reading into it aspects that are not true. Those causing mayhem and looting are British - pure and simple.

The anarchists have used the death of a drug dealer to cause trouble. I hope the government will now wake up and act on societal issues at the core of this problem.

Why is what rdsouza has posted racist? He is talking about all those who were rioting, stealing and destroying other people's property. He said nothing about their nationalities. And as you said yourself, there were all kinds of nationlities involved. So where is the racism in his post?

Britain is reaping the harvest for a reckless visa policy.

A study of profile of all those arrested will reveal the root cause , there is nothing wrong with the country, but everything wrong with some people who are genetically averse to hard work., disgruntled and against everything that moves and breaths.
