then it won't harm to reset the router again and start fro m the beginning. From what I understood here, you got the silver Linksys with the single antenna and that router comes with installation software CD.

There is a small button in the back of your router labeled 'Reset', use a pin or anything to click on it while the router is on for at least 15 seconds and sometimes to 30 seconds. Monitor the lights in the front it will go orange, red before it goes back to normal if it does not then you were not successful in resetting your router.

Connect later your laptop or desktop through a network cable, LAN cable, whatever names they give to it to one of the ports in the back. Run the setup, follow the instructions and then from there it should be easy.

User name: 'normally your land line with s or g at the beginning' so it would be something like: s4444444

Passw0rd: qatar12 (not unless they change it to something else which is normally 123 or 1234). If it does not work, call Q-Tel and they will reset it for you (they will ask you to what should they reset it).

Hope that would help ...

Hi,

i am using Linksys model WAG54GS for past 2 years. Today i made a simple mistake instead of turning off the power button, i pressed the SecureEasySetup. Then i tought all the network was set to default (see SecureEasySetup change to orange color), i then resetted the device (tiny reset button at the back of device)

Now having a problem to re-configure the device.

Please advise which setup to use:

Encapsulation??

Multiplexing??

VPI??

VCI??

Username & Password (this is the tricky one since i don'tknow is this the u/name & p/word for my previous security network or it has to be given by QTEL?)

Then i just did trial & error by putting my previous network id name & p/word.

Then i chose WPA Personal with TKP Encryption.

Key in the password (as same as previous)

Then, when i tried to save the setting to configure the gateway setting, an error message appear said that" Saving Configuration Failed. Please Check Your Network"

The thing is, now i can see my network id in the wireless network list in in fact also able to connect it.

The only problem is this network showed the status "local " and i cannot go through the internet.

Please help.

I received a reply from QTel Customer service:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Customer,

Thank you for emailing us,

Regarding your question about the encapsulation of Qtel ADSL service is,

PPPoE , LLC, VPI 8, VCI 35, and if you have MTU should be 1460

and some customers are working on PPPoA, VCMUX OR VC, VPI 8, VCI 35, and if you have MTU should be 1460.

but most of the customers are working now on PPPoE and this one should work with you if not try to PPPoA and it will work.

For more information please do not hesitate to contact us.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

SO, I switched my Lindsys Router from PPPoE to PPPoA, and it is working fine. Apparantly mine will work either way. I'll do some tests to see how the speed compares.....

I got also today a linksys router from a friend that does not work, guess the problem is from Q-Tel ... I had to configure it as an access point to make it work after connecting this one to Q-Tel poor router ...

Needs some work to assign it an IP, Subnet, DNS from Q-Tel .. disable DHCP and other things ...

Your pc might have a static ip address configured. As far as I know Belkin uses 192.168.2.0 subnet while Linksys uses the 192.168.1.0 subnet.

use the Setup CDrom that comes with router.

Have just tried the 192.168.1.1 again and it comes up network error??

Thats the same number i have been putting in the address bar but it keeps coming up page cannot be displayed.

Yes my Linksy is just plugged into my jack thats all.

Have tried turning everything off and then on again but no joy. Qtel were no use at all when i rang them. Grrrr.

Muscatali:

The linksys that I have is configured by:

http://192.168.1.1

Then enter admin for the user name and admin in the password field.

My router setup looks like this:

Encapsulation: RFC2364 PPPoA

Multiplexing: VC

QOS: UBR

Autodetect: enabled

Virtual Circuit: 8 VPI , 35 VCI

DSL Modulation: Multimode

Of course there are other settings, but these get you started.

I have noticed the sometimes you MUST shut everything OFF and wait awhile, then turn it all back ON. The computer, the router, etc.

One question that I have for you, so it is not overlooked. Is your Linksys plugged directly into the phone jack with no other devices between? That is the way mine is setup.

Good luck.

I still may try PPPoE just to see if it works.......

King Edshel's advice caught my eye as it contains the following question and comment:

"Which protocol did you pick up from there? PPOE or PPOA? Q-Tel is using these days the first one."

When I subscribed to QTel's adsl service, nobody came out. I just waited and waited, then I bought a router and poked around until it worked. I have the Linksys WAG200G Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway.

I just checked my router setup and it is set for RFC2364 PPPoA. The other choice is RFC 2516 PPPoE, which I haven't tried. Mine seems to be working OK. I have a 2mb connection. I don't claim that it works great, but it works.

I wonder if I should try setting it for PPPoE??

Your LAN Connection may be ok but is your WAN connection up and running? Have you configured your WAN with the correct parameters. Check your WAN settings as well.

settings and make sure that :

1- under the connections that 'never dial up a connection' is the option.

2- your network connection [wireless or lan] is not having a static IP address and let your router assign that for you.

3- make sure that under LAN settings of your IE that you are not using a proxy server.

4- if it i connected and the strength is ok, this is on your laptop then it does not mean that the internet should be working on the router try opening Windows Command Prompt or CMD typr there this one:

ping [space, hit the space bar] then type any URL

Example:

ping goole.com

if you got a reply, then your internet is up but if you did not then the router is not configured properly ..

yea you are right see you later.

and Musc did u restart ur pc. r u sure its not locked and asking you for any password let the strength be full but access is must through password. do you see any lock there??

Can you please specify which linksys [Router] did you got? Is it the 'G' or the 'N' series? That would not make a difference in the configuration, but just to be in the picture. Which protocol did you pick up from there? PPOE or PPOA? Q-Tel is using these days the first one. After you configure the router, you must go to the 'Status' page to connect ... but i guess that you are using the new Linksys so this one comes with a software that runs a wizard which make it really easy. Did you specify those values 8/35 for the VC settings? Hope this helped, if you can just tell what is exactly the problem .. did you check the internet led on your router? is it up? If so ... Check your network settings, you might be using a static IP while the router is using DHCP to give you and IP.

i never used them King will help you. but wait r you connected you sure there is not password on the modem itself?
