Has anyone arranged life insurance cover from their home country while in Qatar? I'm about to look into arranging expat life insurance from a UK company but don't know where to start and what details I should be looking for. Anyone BTDT? Is it worthwhile? Recommended companies to use?
Most UK insurance companies will not cover future expats. The questions on the application forms even ask if you intend to live abroad and if so, it's normally a decline. In fact some insurers will not cover you uner existing policies once you leave the Uk as policies are for UK residents only so you need to check.
For new policies out here, then do as you should in the UK and speak to an independent financial adviser, one who is authorised and regulated by the QFC would be best.
At Nexus, we are independent and authorised by the QFCRA (#00099) and have plenty of British trained and qualified advisers who can help. If you need cover, then drop me a line.
Contact this company as they deal with specialist insurance companies that cater for expats anywhere in the world and do not require the policies to be signed in the UK. They can also arrange for premiums to be paid in other currency than sterling. Email [email protected]
I meant that we would arrange the policy before we left the country and it would be specific to expatriates. I'm sure that all regular policies only cover you if you are resident in the country where you take out the policy.
I personally do not make such arrangements because in my homecountry law requires that if one opens an insurance policy, (s)he must be in HK personally by the time (s)he signs the policy.
I am not sure if UK has a similar restriction but would think you may want to check this out before committing to a policy.
