Latest fraud Carrefour promotion in town..

By scorpio79

I bought an item from carrefour landmark branch today.

There was a promotion in carrefour which stated that if i can produce a receipt for the same item at a cheaper price from any other shop, they will refund me 10 times the difference amount.

I had a receipt for the same item at a cheaper price from their competitor and submitted the refund claim form with the original receipts.

Carrefour is now telling me that i should have shown the receipt from the first shop within 48 hours of purchase and is not giving me the refund.

I asked for the terms and conditions of this promotion and there does not seem to be any! What if i had found the cheaper item after i had bought it from Carrefour? The promotion is valid till April 8, 2009.

Does anybody have a contact for the Consumer Protection in the Ministry of Commerce or any other government body that looks into this kind of fraud promotions?

The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole

I bought a camera from Carrefour, and was given 1 year’s no-quibble Guarantee. . .

Sure enough I had a problem, and went to get the item fixed or swapped at Carrefour . . . . NOT A CHANCE. They argued and argued and basically told me that the Guarantee was just a promotional thing to help sell more cameras, not to actually provide any guarantee that the product was OK.

My advise - don't use Carrefour - you pay more for the protection of a big name, but it truth you're dealing with a shoddy back-street outfit selling through the Carrefour brand.

for obvious example compare the LG products in lulu with Jumbo Electronics..... Jumbo electornics authorized and sole dealer/distributor of LG products in Qatar.. when come to price, they are the most expensive on LG products.

simple fact. i bought a LG vacuum cleaner from lulu for 147 riyals. same evening when checked the price at Jumbo showroom, the price is 205 riyals... just 58 QAR more!!!!!!... later they had a promotion sale and sold the same item for 175 QAR.. still expensive.. come on. wake up Authorized dealer look around.

Consumer Protection....lol

What if the guy at the Consumer Protection counter is the sponsor of Carrefour?

I am just exploring this possibility?

nope, Mis-Cat.

They bring a lot of stuff directly from their Dubai exporters, just like Lulu.

I wanted a couple of new electronic items from Sony so I went to 51 East, and they said that the products had not yet launched in Qatar (they also advised me to wait about 2 weeks).

I went to Carrefour and ***they had them there!******.

They were even offering Replacement Warranty. :)

Might intrest you all too know that their electronics department are attached to the licenced importers in Qatar, so their Sony products come through East 51, CAnon Camera's through Salam Plaza, Samsung products Through Techno Blue, Apple Products iSpot ect, ect. However if you do a price comparison with the other stores Carrefour is still slightly cheaper. I just bought an Apple 13" 2.4 GHz,Mac Book for QR6899 from them and the best part There is no Arabic on the Keyboard....

it is just marketing strategy and promotions and NOT a challenge for shoppers!

At least C4 manage to reduce its prices to bring it down to their competitors level.

carrefour city centre...I'll stick with LULU Hyper....lol

It's near my place and the taxi fare is not that much :-P

Seriously, I noticed that too just the other week. We did look for laptop cooling pad and the price at Villagio was more than what was priced in Carrefour City Centre.

The funny thing is...the Carrefour sales clerk admitted it and even advised us to go to Hyatt Plaza coz its way cheaper....and he was right :-)

Consumer Protection is opposite the City Centre...not sure about a contact number..maybe you can walk in and see...oh yea..and make sure you know Arabic! :)

Even the price between their own outlet differs. check the price in villaggio carrefour they are atleast 20% more than the one in city center.. so what if i produce a bill from city center carrefour to the villagio branch, would they refund the 10 times (though its their very own outlets)... all these are false claim and to lure customers.... too bad.
