Sorry Novita to hear about the trip to Buddapest.. I have flown so many times with Ryan Air so many times to and back from Sweden that I have lost count.. They used to be good in the beggining.
Well we hope you have better weather and have a nice time in the Lakes Districts..
Buddapest postpone for now, my passport was with Hungarian Embassy for 1 month !!! Suppose to be 5 days to apply schengen visa ... Go figure.
Because of the delay in the visa, all the Rayyan Air flight Liverpool - Budapest fully booked (Easter Hols).
Will see what we plan in the summer, fortunately my schengen visa valid for 1 year :) So I have 1 yr to plan somewhere to go to use that schengen visa.
As for today the weather was manky, so we ended up went to York and spend the day over there. Finger cross will catch some nice weather before we fly back to the sandpit.
Windermere, Grasmere, Keswick. All great places to stay.
Get a couple of books of Wordsworth and Keats if you're interested in the Lake District's relation to the British psyche.
Climb a few hills. Helvellyn is popular for the views. Scarfell Pike is the highest in England, but many people find the eventual peak disappointing after the final cruel scramble.
The food isn't too great, apart from the sausages, which I'd probably kill for right now. The beer is excellent.
Take a put-put boat out onto Windermere. Take sandwiches.
Sit in a pub while it rains for a week, solid.
Visit the slate mine and pencil museum when the weather turns bad.
[ah. you're only going for one day. windermere is good. perhaps morning in Bowness, afternoon in Keswick]
We stayed in Kewisk last year and really enjoyed it. Visited Windmere, which is much more commercialised then any of the other places and has the biggest lake.
Novi.. I strongly suggest if you guys are going there this time of year and you want to see the lakes and hills and the sheep ofcourse, then rent a car.
I hope you guys have a nice time. Must be cold back home at this time of the year..
The Borrowdale Valley south of Keswick is wonderful, with walks right into the heard of the Lakes, including Scafell Pike, which is England's highest mountain (a touch over 3,000 feet and not difficult to walk in decent weather). Borrowdale is one of my favourite places and Rosthwaite is a great base if you can get a place at the Royal Oak, the Scafell Hotel or the cottage where Prince Charles stayed a few years back.
For walking you should get both the Ordnance Survey map and Wainwright's famous guide to whichever area you are in. Wainwright is the walker's bible there, with every sheep track, wall and fencepost described (almost).
Ooops! Just saw you are only going for a day. What a mistake! You should spend at least a week, it's quite a big piece of countryside.

Novi ... I like your 'local' take of Rayyan Air - I'm sure they would do better the Ryan Air ;o)
