German nuclear power plants to close by 2022
Interesting move by the Germans.. Whilst other nations including those in the Gulf are trying to move towards Nuclear Energy, Germany has decided to go green...
I believe its a good move , which will accelerate the development of alternate energy... BUT what say you ?

Germany's ruling coalition says it has agreed a date of 2022 for the shutdown of all of its nuclear power plants.
Environment Minister Norbert Rottgen made the announcement after a meeting of the ruling coalition that lasted into the early hours of Monday.
Chancellor Angela Merkel had set up an ethics panel to look into nuclear power following the disaster at the Fukushima plant in Japan.
Mr Rottgen said the seven oldest reactors, which were already subject to a moratorium, and the Kruemmel nuclear power plant, would not resume.
Six others would go offline by 2021 at the latest and the three newest by 2022, he said.
Mr Rottgen said: "It's definite. The latest end for the last three nuclear power plants is 2022. There will be no clause for revision."
mmyke, we could mimic the sun but the problem is getting the hydrogen gas cheap..

Germany is presently one of the first few country's to have gone ahead with Solar and Wind in a big way. Even at present they are the world leaders in renewables. They are presently doing a lot of work in making deep cycle batteries which could moderate the power over a longer time.
Every country will need a seamless transition from fossils to renewables, sooner or later. Germany is just playing the early bird.
Khanan,
how do you know that?

They will develop the technologies, and when other countries switch, too, Germany, again, will be the world leader.
