Frustrating!!!

Over the past few weeks, whenever I have gone grocery shopping at some of the well known hyper-markets, I most often than not, get my change back along with a candy to make up for the .50 deficit.

I would let the .50 go if it were going to the employee standing at the cash register, but the very fact that it's not, I ask for it back only to be given a candy or gum.

I have collected a sizable amount already and in a week or so will go and pay them with it for the groceries I have purchased.

Can't wait to see the look on their faces :-))

And i use this .50 coins to take my weight once in a month whenever i go to LULU or where WEIGHING scales are installed..lol.

I really dislike when the cashier hand over the candies in lieu of returning the meagre money...My husband really finds it hard to argue with the cashier to give us .50 just for the sake of my STUPID DEMAND..lol

but of late i have had a debtor pay me back part of what he owes me. So rather than putting it in the bank, I have been using it on groceries etc.

They are just encouraging people to use plastic. Easy for them and us. Why don't use plastic when everybody got one?.

I always pay with my credit card. No more rounding, no more candy :O)

I too am very strict with my kids diet, but when these cashiers give us the return change in candy, right in front of them.....you should see my kids eyes light up.

Usually have a tough time if take the candy, so I just leave it at the counter.

Guys, keep at least one 50 and one 25 dirham coin in your wallet when you go for shopping in such outpelets. It is now the normal trend of all major hypermarkets in Qatar and I am fed up with it. I usually carry now a 50 and 25 dirham in my pocket when I go for shopping or use the plastic.

Sorry, I just figured when you said your son is addicted to candy that he must eat it all the time. Parents here seem more relaxed about giving their kids lots and lots of sweets, probably why there are so many little fat kids waddling about.

Tink, why are you waiting for management to 'do something'? He's your son. If you don't want him to eat candy, don't give it to him. It's so bad for his teeth and his health.

you need to beat them at their game. that way they will change. In the meantime how many of you have a whole load of coins in your homes? why dont you try to put them back into circulation?

I'm not doing it to penalize them, if she doesn't accept it, I will call for the manager ;-)

Like I said, if that .50 was going to the employee standing at the counter, I would let go of it.

I refuse to take anything but real money, I've thrown a huge paddy in the past when they refused and I used the same argument...would you accept this manky biscuit for currency? I think not...

this is also a thing you se in the toll booths of raods in India. there they will give you candies instead of real change. next time you take that path they will accept those candies instead of actual cash :)
