I think we don't make so many true true friends here as we know we will leave one day...Same as in the military as we all move on...Just remember you may move on to where that friend is someday...Just something to think about....Doha is like going back in time...
Let's all grow up...
Whats really cool when you have been here a long time many of your friends return and its double fun, this just happened to us, two families returned with even more kids. With Internet we keep in touch with everyone its great. Our friendships here turn out closer than elsewhere in the world given they become like family. Many ladies I consider as my sisters and their children call me Aunti, its great. Most people think they won't be here long and then end up here for 10+ years.
Now that is something I wish doesn't happen to me when I go grocery shopping etc... on the contrary, when I'm flying on work, that is a welcome sight... ;-) lol...
Adressing the original topic of the post (not the others that followed!?) - I've met some really good friends during my time in Doha, many who have left but I keep in touch with regularly, and many who I will keep in touch with when I leave.
If you have the attitude that there's no point making friends cos we all move on, then perhaps that will hold you back from making friends.
And the plus side of becoming friends with ex-pats is that they all move away to different countries, so you can have lots of holidays with free accommodation and tour guides!

I can remember my friend's face when she and her husband seeing you sitting in our veranda.
