Fire at Villagio!!!
Let's hope not...
I am sure we have all seen the gruesome photos of burned bodies unable to escape from a burning building, so I wont post them here.
However, a few months ago I discovered the fire exit in Villagio chained up. It is the exit near the ice rink, where all the restaurants are. We all know that there is already a history of minor fire mishaps in the past at Villagio.
Anyway, I went straight to the Managers office, and yes, he was in. He fully agreed it was unacceptable and would have it removed at once. I did tell him that if I found it chained again, I would take it further.
Guess what, this week it is still chained up (see Pic). I have also forwarded this to Gulf Times, but I have a feeling they wont be reporting it.
wouldn't you think?

Sharpy,You would make a great journalist...
UK eng ............ I also see some pictures of lots of bodies piled against windows and doors when they cannot escape the building. It is scary to think it can be my family one day, however slim chance.
But this is just plain common sense not to lock a fire exit!!!
every mother ........ are you serious? Not sure when you joking, but would not surprise to see them do this.
every mother... you made me laughed... hahahaha!
Thanks for highlighting such an important issue it could be any one of us trapped in that mall wanting to escape a fire!

They removed it..........
Now they are locking from the other side of the door :D
Aana free, jaana free,
Pakde gaye tho khana free.
Is any body check recently if it is still locked? If anybody go to Villagio, can they check and let us know. I see nothing in the paper so I am thinking after the incident of them reporting stopping lone males shopping there, they also too frightened to report the truth again.
Clearly it is cheaper to simply put a lock on it than have it fixed properly and in line with safety regulations. A lock is cheap, life is apparently cheaper!
Fire exit is supposed to be designed in a way that it can only open from inside. In some buildings it also has an alarm, which will ring if anyone tries to open it.
Green Snake !! :(
I was more relieved sharpy

Think its quite amusing how many people have rushed to this thread and are dissappointed there hasn't been an actual fire!!!
Better than reporting after any incident happen, it may help some one.
Dont blame him for being creative. He got your attention didnt he?
And yeah, the management of most malls here are clowns. Nothing new.
Don't write anything in the title just to grab people's attention.

The title of the thread is quite misleading... :
Well done... thanks for reporting it and then posting on QL.....
I think it should be the civil defense to act on this matter. They should do the compliance inspection.
let the villagio management be aware of the fire exit is OK, but your title for this thread is confusing. Pls. next time try to select your subject title that would not seem alarming to the readers as some expect the post to be happening at present time.
you are right , this is indian made
good move on your part.
i rather inform the fire dept than newspaper,, these papers value advertisment more than this stuff
But other people have brought this to Villagio's management's attention before - just that nothing has been done about it. Is this the polite "inshallah" that means a gentle no cos Villagio has 4 (or more) large exits as it is and thus that fire exit is not needed? Plus there is a man made canal running through part of it. I dunno. Each exit has a guard, maybe they didn't want to employ additional guards to man those exits.
Just thinking further- if there's a fire at one side, people can still escape by another way. Don't think there's a possibility for getting trapped.

Thanks for sharing this info and especially taking it up to Villgio management.
I wish these ppl take some positive action.
Personally would rather deal with bad people than be trapped in a burning building in a place where people are unable to form an orderly queue just to collect a prescription let alone in an emergency. Anyway, bad people are hardly a huge problem here, when was the last time you saw people breaking in to buildings in public?
where is the fire?
fire exit is the entrance of the bad people,,,,it should be locked...
i guess it was on fire in past. or 2 times i dont remember.
nice information
