Fugitive former US security contractor Edward Snowden has received refugee status in Russia, WikiLeaks said.

"Edward Snowden has successfully acquired refugee status in Russia and will shortly leave the airport," the anti-secrecy organisation said on Twitter.

RIA news agency quoted Anatoly Kucherena, a Russian lawyer assisting Snowden, as saying the 30-year-old got temporary asylum status for a year.

Kucherena told state broadcaster Russia 24 that Snowden had left for an undisclosed secure location.

"Security is a very serious matter for him," the Russian lawyer said.

It is time to make Mission Impossible 5 with Tom Cruise and Angelina. At the climax, it would be a funny surprise to know that Tom Cruise is a villain. :)

Putin by dismissing the request to return Snowden is signaling the world that Obama is weak. Now there are terrorist alerts overseas, when Obama said Bin Laden was killed and the world was stronger. It is time to move over democrats..you need conservatives to save the day!

Yes. Agree with you. In real intellectual debates one would never judge the other person or a set of group. It is a sign of amature personality that instead of bringing valid and rational arguments, they will start judging people which is out of context in an intellectual debate.

Patience and knowledge brings the true and valid arguments.

Hidden agendas, ignorance and the capacity not accept a fact brings just words with no arguments which goes out of context like judgment etc.

Thats true as both such sets have twisted mindsets driven arguements based on prejudices which do not deserve to be taken further. So what to do yani...they are best left with words to realise (if at all they can) whats wrong rather than attempting a positive argument or should I say, debate.

Yes what to do yani? :) Some people just have words and no arguments. :)

Some people like certain actions of a country and frown at others and then we have another set of people who appreciate the opposite. So is the world of prejudices and hypocricies. What to do yani...:)

Landlover, that too has been happening for ages. In some countries more than others.

Agree with you Nommy.. we are not talking about "Some Surveillance". It is already there from decades. We are talking about private lives, arresting without any arrest warrant just cuz the "Red Eyes" cant understand your texts or emails etc. Its called as "National Security extremism"

Oh, I sure do want some surveillance.

Unless...ALL surveillance stopped. But since that is never going to happen, I sure as heck won't live in a place without it. And I want the very best there is.

He did the world a favour, We don't want a surveillance planet. It's time the governments stopped now, towing to corporations and gave us the world of peace we want.

good old joe, what happens to people who break the law? hmmmm ? Is it not the responsibility of a government to prosecute those who break the law? hmmm ?

But anyway, let him play with a Russian bear for a while...in the end it will devour him anyway.

Good old joe

.. if the Russians can have him why are the americans in such a big hurry to get him.. probably afraid of more dirty secrets and crimes around the world spilling out

They are more than welcome to have him :)

Seems like they are somewhat of a magnet for 'odd" people. Lol

Was there not this fat ,rather strange French actor who decided to become a Russian? I believe his reason was tax evasion.....

Looks like the Russians like the guys in HK earlier spat on the arrogant Americans again. The Americans are running out of friends around the world with the exception of puppet countries like the UK and Australia
