What is the general opinion about the used car prices on QatarLiving.com? Do buyers usually pay the asking prices, which seem high, or do the cars usually sell for 20 percent to 30 percent less, or even less expensive?

I have some personal advice for who ever reads this comment.

This is to warn everybody who wants to rent a car here in Doha.

Jumbo is unreliable car rental company and do no deliver what they agree upon. They are misleading and you will not be satisfied with the service, if there is any at all. My only advice is to NEVER rent from them!!!

if you are going to buy a car, you have to consider that you are buying what is right for you and your needs, cost of maintenance and the salvage value/ resale value afterwards.

i was in the TOYOTA motors corp. as a design engineer for 5 years and i am familiar with any japanese, chinese and korean cars from its design, durability, maintenance, performance and limits. I will recommend Toyota..

If your budget allows for it, I would recommend either a new or used Volvo for Doha. I would not trust a used BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc. Cars are often neglected here and I would not want to take on those repair costs. If you would prefer to buy one of those brands, please ensure the maintenance has been done. I bought a Volvo knowing that the average owner does not hot rod place to place.

If a Hummer is what you are after, then go to Mannai Trading. They have other SUVs as well from GMC, and distribute Subaru as well if your budget is more modest. Their service is pretty good also.

I heard BMW at alfardan has the best service.

For comparison, you can hire a 1.6l auto sedan (various models, eg Nissan, Renaut) for about QAR1700 per month - less if you take a 12 mth lease and prepay.

Car payments are based on the loan amount and if the banks are having a promo at the time. They do charge interest rates and it can get confusing with insurance, etc.

The cost of a car depends on the car, we priced a new Hyundai Tucson, QR62,000. Ended up buying a 2004 Chrysler Sebring, QR46000 from an Expat. Be very careful with buying a local used car, Cars are abused here, wrecked here, driven into the ground, so know what you are doing.

If you find a used car dealer to trust, remember he is a used car dealer.

I agree with GIASI, I owned a Nissan in Dubai and it was a pleasure to own it...However the dealership and Service of Nissan in Qatar is Horrible..

THEY DONT SERVICE THE CAR AT ALL..JUST DO OIL AND FILTER CHANGE ALL THE TIME...

ASK THEM FOR SERVICE AND THEY WILL TALK OF A SCHEDULE OF LEAVING THE CAR THERE FOR FEW DAYS (USUALLY 3 DAYS)...

IF YOU HAVE THE MISFORTUNE OF A DENT ON YOUR CAR..IT WILL TAKE A WEEK FOR THEM TO REPAIR IT...

WHY SELL CARS IF YOU CANT SERVICE THEM?? NISSAN CARS ARE REALLY GOOD..but the dealership at QATAR is a living SHAME...

Make sure you get white for a color, you want to fit in.

Be warned!!!! the worst car dealership i have had the misfortune to go to is the Nissan dealer. Granted, nissan have a great line-up of cars but the poor service of the dealer has made it no joy to own a Nissan.

best 4x4 - toyota (LC or Prado)

best luxury saloon - mercedes e class

best economy family saloon - maza 6, toyota camry

best economy compact - maza 3, toyota yaris

worst--- hummer...ssangyong (eg rexton)... anything european (except merc. BMW)

Qatar does not have websites for most commerce. Best car to drive depends on what you want to do, only town, off road, racing (to AlKhor and back).

Prices are comparable to US cost. If you get a used car, be careful. Qataris are hard on cars. Try to find an Expat leaving town.

Lease for a month, learn to drive here in somebody elses car, see what you can find and then buy.
