Hi guys!!! Am juz new hre in this forum.I wonder if anybdy knows bwt some banking procedures..well here goes..

my company called the banks wherein i have credit cards in,after i submitted my resignation.d banks faxed them and were asking me 2 pay the credit limit they have given me.mashreq bank is ok coz my family has also used the card, but hsbc really sucks!!! it has given me a credit limit of a month salary and i took a card w/c can be used for online purchasing.d agent told me that its empty and that 2 prevent d overdrawing of cash from purchasing online,i only have 2 transfer d exact amount 2 that card.when hsbc asked me 2 pay them, they gave the checked w/c i signed b4,with d amount of 4,00 and 1,000 respectively for d 2 cards.

do any1 think this is legal?i mean if d bank will put such amount on the check they asked us 2 sign eventhough we have not use it yet?its only now that i received their monthly account statement, coz i just got their card last week f dec.,i  need only 2 pay for the card w/c is 50 ryals and yet the check they 4warded 2 d police station bears the 1,000 credit limit of that card.

kindly enlighten me on this matter coz when i tried 2 call d bank they said that they have put that amount coz its d credit limit of that card, duh?!!!.

did you return your credit card and they cancelled it? Otherwise take money from the card untill reach the limit.

hi daisy.

its really sad that you are facing this problem....having a travel ban is pretty serious and it looks like a lot of authorities are involved in this which means that what you have posted isnt the complete picture.

have you purchased on the cards that they are asking you to pay the dues?the bank seems to know what they are asking of you.

or is it the card fees they are asking you to pay up?

dont take this wrong.....its just that some questions go unanswered reading your post.

and now it looks like you are desperate for a job?

what sort of job were you doing?what kind of job are you looking for?

march is too close...dont know how....but insha'allah you should come up with that amount.

That's a tough call. Not being able to leave the country as a result of unsettled dues, and not being able to earn as you've quit your job already.

Honestly, I think you should approach the Phillipine embassy and make them aware of your situation.

All the best!

Its not what I meant.Han,you've been wonderful in taking the time to reply. What I meant was that when Pothole said that he thinks there is no equivalent organization here in Qatar,I agreed with him that help could come from that point but with the set up here in Qatar, there's no way for me to find one such organization.

The HSBC bank has imposed a travel ban for me and has filed a case in the Capital Police.I need to pay the whole amount in order for me to be able to leave the country.I need to leave before March 7 because I have a scheduled interview in my home country.I have found another job here in Doha, but I couldn't tell that to my present employer.

I just need to find even somebody or an agency who could loan me an amount with my friends as guarantor to it.I found that there's no way for me to get out of the country unless I pay the whole amount.

Thanks again and take care of yourself!

daisy...i think you got us wrong.

if you feel we have already helped you then its cool.

but i couldnt follow your post completely and so did pothole...i guess, which is why he asked you to explain in full.

so if you could explain in detail using full words.....like pothole mentioned......then maybe more of us could advise you based on each ones experience.

but i dont think we meant to tell you that you cant be helped here.

HAN19 - "i know what you are saying....so its probably a rip off for the customer which we feel is illegal becasue one wouldnt have understood the finer details.........but its in the fine print of the bank......so the banks are safe and absolutely legal."

The legality of such issues is decided by Consumer Protection Agencies. For Eg: ACCC in Australia. I've used them and have had positive results within hours. Once against a bank, and another time against an electronics retailer.

Just because they have put stuff in fine print does not make it "legal" everytime.

I'm quite sure there are no equivalent organisations here. Even if there where any, they wouldn't be easily accessible.

From Daisy's latest post, it looks like things have sorted themselves out. I don't know. I just hate/cannot fully comprehend stuff written in SMS? lingo. Sorry, Daisy. I hope you don't take any offence. But, it would be to your advantage if you expressed your problem in fully formed words and sentences with proper capitalisation and punctuation. I'm sure you'll get more replies from people who otherwise wouldn't even have bothered reading your post.

Cheers,

PR

thanx so much 4 d concerns!! i was starting 2 feel lyk theres no1 out there who cares...anyweis,i got my hsbc card last dec 22 and d agent 2ld me that the fee for d cards will be charged at d end of the year, but when i got d bank staetment,it says that i have 2 pay the fee for the card.i drew cash from the card, but d 2nd card (w/c is used 4 online purchases)is still empty,as ive said,d agent 2ld me that it does not contain any amount but that i only have 2 transfer d exact amount 2 that card in case of online purchases.

i resigned from d company,dec.27,they informed d bank and d bank called and asked me 2 pay the whole amount, when i refused they gave the check 2 d capital police w/d credit limit amount for both cards.i was surprised when d police 2ld me that i have 2 pay 5,ooo instead of 3,400.i called d bank and there they 2ld me that I PUT (???) d amount there myself. When i tried 2 tell him how come it became like that he 2ld me that they have 2 put there d credit limit amount, when i asked what is d 2nd check of 1,000 for, they 2ld me that its for d card w/c is used for online purchases.

i 2ld d police bwt it but they said my signature is on the checks,i remembered d agent letting us sign 2 blank checks and telling us that its for credit shield insurance.

guys, help me out in figuring this one!!!!

hi pothole....

i know what you are saying....so its probably a rip off for the customer which we feel is illegal becasue one wouldnt have understood the finer details.........but its in the fine print of the bank......so the banks are safe and absolutely legal.

do you think a police complaint will help or is it better to check with a lawyer after having checked the complete documents.

Daisy, this sounds quite interesting, but I'm not sure If I've understood you right.

You are trying to cancel two credit cards issued in your name by HSBC for which you are being charged an amount equivalent to the credit limit even though you have just a few riyals worth of payments due. Is that right?

Now, how does the police complaint fit into this story?

HAN19 - "i dont think a bank like hsbc would indulge in illegal transactions/activities."

HSBC would not do anything illegal? What if they are trying to rip off Daisy by exploiting a loop-hole, probably related to some fine print that most customers may not be aware of.

Get out of HSBC bank before they wrap you up.
