CHLORINATED FISH IN DOHA

dear QL friends,

this is actually an information which i doubt thats happening in DOHA FISH MARKET AND ELSEWHERE IN MALLS. this is now too much. i was actually fond of fish. i eat too much also. but now a days i feel womitting on seeing and smelling the fishes which we buy especially from doha fish market and malls. i actually to frank by fish in tensions wether i will get a distaste on cooking. not all fishes but most of the time when preparing and after preparation also the foul smell and taste still be there. but the smell and taste is nothing but of CHLORINE AND BLEECH. I REALLY DOUBT THAT THE FISH IN DOHA MARKET IS BEEN CHLORINATED FOR PURPOSE OF FEELING FRESHNESS WHICH I REALY HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH WHICH ON CONTINUOUS INTAKE MAY LEAD TO ULCERS OR CANCERS OF INTESTINE.

THE MUNCIPALITY ATHORITIES MUST HAVE A CONTINUOUS CHECK ON THIS MATTER. THEY ARE USING CHEMICALS LIKE AMMONIA CLORIDE ETC FOR PRESERVING THE FRESHNESS. I DONT KNOW WHY THE ATHORITIES ARE CLOSSING THIER EYES WITHOUT CHECKING AND HEAVILY FINING THESE PEOPLE. IF THEY NEGLECT THIS I SURE THAT THEY MAY HAVE TO OPEN ONCOLOGY HOSPITAL SHORTLY AT DOHA.

i am a big fan of fish-based (also fishy stories)meal. i am buying fish almost every week for at least 2kg. i never smelled or tasted chlorinated fish (or other chemicals to that matter). so, if i may ask, please name the market so that we are all aware which seller adding extra flavour to their fish or making this story more fishier...

I did not notice any chlorine smell in the fish that I purchase. I usually do this from super markets. Last time it was al-meera. No issues at all.

Besides, all the fish that is available fresh in Doha are salt water fishes which has nothing to do with the chlorination of water by Authorities in the tap water.

Buy the live fish in corniche near to museum, daily they will sell it from 6.00 PM onwards.

Its really good when compared with frozen fish.

Fish Market looks big and good, but none of the fish are not that much good. Its very rare.

dear uk friend

according to my experience no as i was having 3 aquas in my home and i have tested all these. the result was zero. pls also read the gulf times i remember 2 weeks back which had come on lack of aquatic life in an area near to doha due to bleaching.

Fish can survive in Chlorinated water subject to the concentration of chlorine not been too high!

I think what the OP is saying the fish appearance looks fresh by using bleach. This is a common but not a healthy practice for fish and poultry products! bleach is used so that the meats looks fresh!

dear uk friend,

fish will be never alive in chlorinated water. if u read my forum u can easily understand that the chlorination is done by the sellers in the market for feeling of freshness. they can also store it in ice which is made from chlorinated water.the fish look more fresh and the taste of chlorine comes inside which does not goeven after cooking.

you right ukeng but should be minimal amount of chlorine mixed in water to become H2O :)

If you take fish out of the water it will die, so fish and water go hand in hand, whiles its alive and even when its dead!

the matter is how is the chlorine getting into the fish.

every body is complaining on water but the subject is on fish. i have checked it with water i use safa water only for cooking. this matter is with fish only and with storage in the market. they are either bleching it for freshness or storing in ice chlorinated for long days.

If there was no chlorine in the water it would not be suitable for domestic use. Chlorine is used world wide for treating water!
