Bus slams into commuters

DOHA: At least 11 people were injured, some seriously, when a Karwa bus ploughed into commuters at the waiting area of the Mowasalat bus terminus in Al Ghanim yesterday.

The bus driver accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes which caused the mishap, say sources.

The bus suddenly zoomed at a speed so high that it tore down two steel benches where some of the victims were sitting, said an eyewitness.

The bus, which was driven by an African national according to eyewitnesses, was numbered 11 and was plying around the Matar Qadeem area route.

“The driver might have mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes,” said a bus driver.

“Nobody expected it to happen. I think the driver was quite stressed out. It has been a busy week for us because of Eid Al Fitr,” said another bus driver.

An eyewitness said some of those seriously injured were standing ready to board the bus while the bus was still on its way.

Excuses like the driver was streesed, that he was having a bad day, etc is just not good enough. Try telling that to the families of the dead and the injured. Hopefully the transport operators will learn from the mistakes and the shortcomings and make the station a better, safer and secure one with properly trained drivers and other staff who deal with the passengers

....Well if you happen to go or pass by there this morning it does not even look like a bus station without a roof or some shade for the passengers to wait under. The driver must indeed have done a terrible job that made them remove the whole roof from one end to the other.

I have personally encountered some extremely rude and disrespectful bus drivers. Some of them do not stop at some bus stops even if there are people waiting there.I asked one driver once why are you avoiding that stop? and he said to me 'i don't want to waste time'!!.Pathetic.

Maybe because it has a monopoly on the transport system that they dont go in for any improvements, new ways of doing things, etc. The bus station itself, the toilets around the bus station, the little canteens, etc are in such a bad shape that its like one of those bus stations in not the third but the Fourth world

A lot of this drivers driving this buses need to be properly trained and sent for regular refreshers. Many of this guys sitting behind the steering wheel think that they own the bus and so many of them are so rude and not even willing to assist passengers when they ask where or which way the bus is going to

What sort of drug the bus driver was on?

Stress is not a license to kill people, if he can' t Handel the situation he can go to see a doctor and get sick leave.

Bus Drivers Stress Test to the limit !!!
