Big girls don't cry!! Neither Boys.

Hi Fellow QL'ers,

This is just to let you know that I'm fed up with the oilfield life here in Qatar.

Since the decision is all back to me at the end, I think it's not right to blame anything about my social life which is dying, but before doing anything, I need some advices..

I'm thinking of taking an action and save what's left of my social life, you might think: (What's wrong with him?) so here I'm gonna give you some of what happened just this week, which is happenig all the time to me:

1- Sunday: I invited some friends to come to my house and watch the final week of the premier leage together, Sunday morning I got a call and had to fly offshore, then I had to apologize from all of my friends, and miss the game.

2- An Amazing group of nice people had invited me to be part of them and their social life, therefore, they asked me to join them for dinner on Tuesday, But I will not be back by then (I'm so sorry guys, I hope to see you next event).

3- My brother was coming from a business trip and passing by Doha Yesterday, but no chance to see him (did not see him since 18 months).

And a hundreds of events that I missed, and friends tht I can't communicate with (not mentioning my girlfriend).

SO here gus I need your advice after asking this question:

(Is the work everything in Life???).

What's you advices:

- Should I quit and look after my social life more, after finding a new job.

- Or should I keep my job which I'm very good at, and social life will come later when I get old :D.

- Or what can I do?

Seriously thinking about it, you posts will reform my decision about what to do.

Some people might ask: What's is the title has to do with the subject?, well here is the answer:

I don't know, but I was listening to Fergie when I was writing ,  :D

Big girls don't cry, Neither boys though... Keep smiling..

Peace.

Well it depends on your priorities and which stage of life your are in. My personal opinion is that you can work only when you are young and healthy so make the most out of it. I am ambitious and want to make money when I can and want to be able to afford things that my parents couldn't and want to live a good life. Family will always understand...which does not mean you have to ignore them. Good friends will stand by you no matter what and if they lose touch coz you're busy then they're not just close enough.

raindrops, you summarized the whole thing in a few words, achieving the balance is not simple with a very difficult schedule, I will have to put this in mind.

Thanks

I like the idea of the long vacation, especially that I still have a few months of vacations left, but can't use them, because we are too busy.

But since they need me at work, I will ask to get all my vacations at once, then come back, otherwise I have to leave permanently. :D

I think it can work.

Peace.

We all try to strike a balance, sometimes work obligations disrupt our plans, but who does not have work obligations, the key is not to make work circumstances control your life, make it the other way round.

Planing and time management help a lot

Good luck

You are right Mila, But the balance is not present now, and you are right about another thing, that I have to listen to everybody here, since everybody is giving a true experience here,

God bless u you all guys, thanks alot for your inputs.

you forget to mentioned here oabeezad, that you earn lots of money by going to offshore which some of the guys here envy you actually.

so be wise and use ur time pefectly. you need to balance between work and social life. am sure if you keep what you do now and save the money you earn most of it rather than spending on gf/toys/cars, you can be millionaire before you reach 40.

once you got the money everything comes easy. but not good friends apparently. so try to balance it well. dont quit your job unless your next job get you where you want to be.

just listen what they say here.. most of them are true.

Everybody is right everybody is wrong it depends where you stand.

do wat u thnk u've missed, visit ur bro if u cud and c ur frnds and do anythng u wish along wid them other than work...

then compare.

evrything you mentioned has its worth, it's only up to you to decide best.

What are your priorities? Do you want money or a balanced life? Go with what your gut feeling says! I always found it works in the long run.

You have to make a list of the important things you want, not to forget that you have to earn money to afford your social life to.

Is changing your job a better option for you then do it.

Is earning money for you important then think twice.

Is your social connections more important than your job then change it.

In the end your social connections will not save your life if you have no money - because perhaps they have no money either.

Heard about this a friend in need is a pain in the ass.

As Vagas said no money no honey!!

Dude I was in the same Dilema last year, sometimes we have to do the right thing. In your case I think the money its not the problem its just your life style, which in my case was the same problem. I love to socialize with people - friends - family.

At least I could get a house outside the camp and my life is so good after that.

So Take your decision which I think you already choose.

Have a great day!

indorachel, I'm still young as well, but is it true that we should save for tomorrow? are we so sure that we will make it till tomorrow?

To be honest with you, I had to break up with my girlfriend last month, and it was because a problem with her dad, now I think he was right, I can't be married to my work, and at the same time having a relationship with his daughter, can I?

I'm serious, people started telling me that I'm marired to my work, because they don't see me anymore.

Changing my whole career might be an option as well, and it will be the second time I'm doing so, the first time was from Programming to Oilfield, and now may be to something else.

brandylady, that's my philosophy too, and I'm thinking of that now, I will go through all the options, and decide.

If I were you i think you should just sacrafied your life to a job ...sure you must be thinking ...but im still young i want to enjoy life ...but if you work hard now and save some money you will enjoy it later ....maybe should go with this QL crowed so you would enjoy life ..........

My philosophy is, if you are no longer happy with what you are doing you need to change it or get out, sometimes just doing it is the hardest thing, once you make the change good things will follow.

Hope you make the right decision for you,

good Luck xx
