Any good shop for basic building materials in Doha?

Hello everybody. I need to buy some mesh and wood to make a high railing for my balcony (to prevent my cat from accidentally jumping over the balcony's own, very low railing). I've been to the Haraaj market, but they only sell complete rolls of mesh (which will be too much for my need), and the stuff on sale is messy.

Would appreciate to know if there is any particular shop (or area of shops) in Doha, where I could buy some decent mesh by the metre and also find some good pieces of wood.

Just realized amde a mistake. The Omani souq is on the left when you look up. NOT THE RIGHT!

The omani souq is near the vegetable & fish market. It is not much but in that area you have lots of garden centres and little shops.

Go onto Salwa road, at the roundabout where Qatar Decoration is turn left. Next rdbt right. Then turn right at the next rdbt. In this street are the garden centres. The first one on your right being Florenza. All down the street are the various places. Check them out. Some only have plants but others have more stuff. Now when you have gone over the sleeping policeman, look right and there up you will see a metal like structure. That is the omani souq. They also have sort of bamboo fencing by the meter in different hights. Check all your measurements before going. Also at the end of this street you will see all kinds of small shops. Check them out.

Good luck.

Aisha-Taweela: I'm still new in Doha, could you tell me where the Omani souq is? Is it also in the old souk area? Thanks.

Heido,

You can try to go to the Omani souq or the shops around it. Instead of the mesh you can buy this green (or other colors available too) material. There are some shops there too that sell poles. Also try some of the garden centres like Florenza. If after your trip you still have not found it you can send me a mail as I have a roll of mesh here, which is very old, and do not know if this is what you want.

Someone posted this on a previous thread - wood souq:

Go to the Souq Al Haraj, its located behind the gulf cinema, they sell wood

any kind of wood. It's a big market, if you cant find it, just ask any shop for it

and they will guide u to the way.
