Another Kitten found

Some of you may remember the paraplegic Kitten I found in the souq a few months back. Yesterday as I left my house in Gharafa. I see a little Kitten the traffic on a dual carriage way. I was about 3 cars behind a man nicely picks him up and puts him on the pavement, I thought that he would just go back to the road. So I stopped, put him in my car, and I noticed his eyes were still shut (even though he looks about 2 to 3 weeks old) I knocked on every house in the street no one seemed to know if this cat had a mum in their house. I took him home wiped his eyes with wet cotton. And noticed puss was coming out of them. (Infection in my opinion) He had some milk and food and rested a little and now is playing with Buddha (my 1 year old Abyssinian cat) as I type this he's nibbling on my computer cables.  I named his blondi (even though he's a male) .....Anyway I think I will take him to the vet later on today.Any suggestions are welcome

I was in Megamart last Tuesday and heard the same cat yowling behind the frige section...I think I might have talked to you...lol I insisted the manager open up the bottom grates on the section..but was told it was coming in through the ceiling..PAH!!  I made enough of a racket that they finally came and opened up the bottom grate and left it open so the poor kitty could get out. I just hope its alright...after the grate was opened, of course the cat retreated until all the humans left it alone.

Happy Blonie is ok. Check out the place when you do not have a cat mioawling in the car. That makes anybody nervous..... It's a lot cheaper!

Hi Aisha;

Thanks for all the help and advice. In fact Buddha (my adulat cat) has all it's shots and is neutered from a long time ago. I'll try to go to this clinic tomorrow morning. Blondi (the kitten) seems healthier except for the eye problem that is still there. he's now playing chewing on my laptop cables as i speak and Buddha is showing a lot of compassion and is playing with him and even letting him sleep next to him.

So i truly hope Blondi will survive.

First of all why cant you have dogs in Qatar? If you want a dog, go to the Pets and Animal web site, they have lots of dogs up for adoption. They also need foster families for puppies. Also if you read their website, the<y need volunteers to walk the dogs. This is maybe something for you?

But my cats, well I have 4 in the house, which are mine, rescues etc. Then I have the others that are outside, they try to get inside, but are not really allowed except for the quick nibble from the inside cat food.

They do get the rabies and flue shots when I am able to catch them. But not really as such.

The outide cats get rice (which I regularely burn cos I forget) with cat food mixed. If I give them cat food alone it will not be enough to sustain them. Scraps whenever I have, either mixed in their normal evening feed or during the day as a snack. They know immediately when there is something for them. As soon as the backdoor opens they come running from far.

 aisha Taweela,

This is really wonderful of you- do you buy them catfood or give them leftovers . Do you allow them inside  the house ? Have you give them anti rabies vaccination ?

I am really interested you see .

Personally I am not a cat lover(actually love dogs ), but since I cannot have dogs in Q , I am satisfying myself with loving a few stray cats.

Maybe you want to have your cats neutered. They reproduce very quickly. If you can catch them, catch them and take them to the clinic directions above. If you cant touch them, go to the clinic and they can give you cages to trap them in. No these cages will not hurt them, just trap them. You can take both cats at the same time and drop them off early, do some shopping and come back later to pick them up. That way you will only have 2 cats to feed and not dozens, like me. My problem is that I can not catch the mama, the offspring, no problem and have been treated, but mama keeps on reproducing. I now have 12 strays that come for their daily meal.

Ok, the roundabout does not excist anymore. You seem to be new, so here we go: Drive from the airport towards Wakhra, after the first traffic light, go onto the slip road. Drive thru to the end on the sliproad. Just before the traffic light, turn into a small oneway(no exit) road, more like a passage. the building should be on your right, but access is from behind. If you miss the little no entry passage, dont worry, - then follow these instructions, turm right at the traffic light, the the first real street to the right. go on for about 150m and turn right. There will not be a real road, but you will see a mosque in the distance. head for the mosque, the building is behind the mosque on the right. Enter from behind. Now remember, this is the government clinic. They are kind but very matter of fact and do not fuss. Dont worry they will not keep the cats. They will also give free rabies shot etc. They also do cat neutering free of charge, but then you should be there before 10am as they stop doing ops at that time. For this a cat needs to be a min of 6 moths, so that might be good for your other cat.

Good luck

Good for you that you take care of the stray cats. FYI you can take them to the government clinic which is free of charge. It is located at the parachute roundabout. Or what used to be the roundabout. They are open from 7am till 1pm. Take both cats as it is probably cat flue and contagious. Both of them needtreatment. For how to take car of the kitten there is a lot of info on google.

As to the cat in Megamart, my daughter heard it the other day and mentioned it to use, we looked around and thought that she must have mis-heard it. So now I can tell her she was right. Hope it got saved. But how did it get there anyway? How did it get in the supermarket? Health regulations??? Or is it a frequentcustomer at the fish department? lol.

Just came back home and not had a chance to take Blondi to the vet. I will try to do that tomorrow. I hope the cat was found behind the fridge....poor creature.

Does anyone know what he might have that makes his eyes stick together with puss? and what i could do to fix the problem?

I was in the Centre yesterday at the deli and cheese counter and i heard what I thought was a very realistic ring tone of a cat yowling, to my horror the guy behind the counter told me a cat was stuck behind the fridge for a week!  I immediately called the general manager and he nearly had a heart attack when I told him there was a cat behind the fridge. Had to go back to work so dont now how it turned out, there was a big enough crowd by then so he would have had to do something to get the poor thing out.

They sell kitten bottles at the vets. Lactose free baby formula from the pharmacy is ok to give them, either through a bottle or syringe but if it is still very small, it may take a while to feed. If there is infection, it would be a good idea to treat your cat also. All the best, it never fails to touch me how compassionate people are here. Good luck
