8 Working Hours (Ramadan)

It's Ramadan and yet, we are working 8 hours a day (8-12am;4-8pm-Working Hours, break time at 12-4pm).
No changes in the company working hours and schedule this Ramadan.
Is it fair? :(

good luck with your flights. when are you going home? It seems like you have been here for long and you need a break. I will request your boss to give you exit permit if he is not allowing you to leave.

By the way you do not need to teach your people at your home country as there are millions of good Muslims in Your India to teach you and your companions.

All companies should follow the law of Qatar.. which says 5 Hrs for Government Sector & 6 Hrs for private ....

Moreover no one stopping non-muslim to eat, but not in public places... that is it. But if still they havesome problem simply they can resign and go to their homelands, where most of them will be killed by shortage of jobs and food and dust and many more things...

LOL. I love the naivety of some people. Just because it's a law in Qatar doesn't mean it's followed. And good luck going to the Labour Dept...just make sure you get there during the 2 hours they actually work during Ramadan and don't expect anything to happen till after Ramadan when it doesn't matter anymore anyway and your Qatari sponsors wasta will probably clear it up and keep you slaving away with no food for 8 or more hours anyway.

As per Labour law the working hours during the holy month of Ramadan should be six hours irrespective of religion. Some companies are asking their employees to work extra hours and in that case the extra hours should be considered as over time.

You are still better off than my hubby's working times. He went to work at 9am yesterday and is yet to return home! he's being working more than 24hrs and he is fasting too. as a project manager he's job requires long working hours in order to keep up with unexpected deadlines,Regardless of it being Ramadan. Mind you no OT. Don't get me wrong though..he loves his job so this is no rant rather just to tell you that not all companies keep up with the whole 6hrs policy. Likewise not all employees can be given the same working hours.Cos in my husbands workplace many staffers have shorter working hours too.It all depends on their line of work and tasks on hand. No one is forced to fast during Ramadan... all offices have somewhere where the staff can go for a coffee or glass of water etc. and if you are not working ramadan timings then you have a lunch break to go home and have your lunch.

nothing bothered me, as my fasting is not for them.

Its only a matter b/w me and my Allah, so why should i bothered about those non Muslims, who are eating and drinking infront of me.

FYI everybody, the law of Qatar makes no difference between muslim and non-muslim employees in this matter; according to the Emir's decree a few years ago, working more than six hours a day during Ramadan is ILLEGAL for all, unless it's a life and death situation.

There are many private companies who do not follow the law and invent restrictions such as the idea that only Muslims are allowed to have shorter hours.

You could always complain to the Labour Dept (if you think it's worth it).
