DIWAN EMIRI MUST KEEP LANDLORDS IN CHECK

One result of Qatar's winning bid - and you can bank on this as sure as the sun rises - is you know landlords of residential and commercial properties in Qatar WILL EXPLOIT this to no tommorrow. I can hear the phones ringing on Sunday morning already for price increases.
I trust the Diwan Emiri knows this and puts a STOP to artificial increases IMMEDIATELY! The real estate law of the few years past must be re-instituted, contracts extended to keep these unscruplulous elements in check right now. This is the first thing the government should do Sunday morning.

Sorry Poolplan, most people here are unlike you in not to just accept whatever is thrown at us. There is something we can do and it is already being done.

Reminders are being issued and assurances given from

some advisory council members already that expect

real estate law for residential to be reinstitued and

surely another extension for commercial properties.

If you were not here during the run-up to the Asian games then ask anyone to remind you of all the outright manipulaition and complete disregard of fair rent practice in this country. it hurt alot of people and people do not forget so soon.

All the landlord has to do is say they are refurbishing or using the premises for a family member and they can break the lease, wait a month and re-rent. Seems to be a pretty effective system, too, from what I have heard.

While there is no rent increase cap defined by the government as far as i know, A rent freeze decree was issued some time back. Since February 2008 rent increases were limited to 10% annually

Not only expatriates would be effected by a sudden rent increase, many newly married Qataris now lives in rented properties.

Yesterday, Barwa have backed off of their recently announced decision to increase rent on its property .This came after many complains over local media

I'm believe there is nothing you can do about it. Be prepared to pay higher rents. Ultimately rent increases will be passed on to employers and then reflected in higher fees. In the end it costs the government more but it is not exactly unaffordable for them.
