Flying vehicles in the old Egypt

I found some interesting articles concerning this subject, i'll post here 2 links so you guys can check them personnally and tell what you think about it.

The 1st one shows some interesting pics found in Egypt:

http://www.lost-civilizations.net/flying-vehicles-ancient-egypt.html

The 2nd one talks about the 1st plane created in the old Egypt: http://www.geocities.com/dawoudkhalil/

Regarding this last one, sometime ago i saw in the Odissey channel a program where they used the plans found to build a virtual model of it.

Why don't I trip over one of these, for all the time I've been living in Egypt..?:)) Not too pretty, but valuable!

What you said agrees with the rest of the posts before you.

As for proving the existence of God, it is already proven, but only for those who're ready to see and have the desire to willingly submit with joy to the highest power. It’s an absolute freedom.

Unless restlessness is expressed, no one in the whole wide world can or should, uninvitingly, force one to disbelieve, or vice versa. It’s rude and just doesn't work.

Sorry Platao36 for derailing. But Gods and Goddess are also a huge part of Ancient Egypt. In another thread maybe..:)

Right, tallg. The same applies to 'time machines'. Designed: yes. Built: not yet.

There's a big difference between drawing a flying machine (if that is what the drawing is of) and actually building one.

For example, the concept of helicopters has been around for over 1500 years, but they weren't built until around 100 years ago.

Happy: Thanks for the invitation, maybe next year, if you decide coming to Portugal, I'll gladly show you things around, and can prepare you a typical fish dish that will surelly please you :)

When you come you'll notice that the Portuguese know how to receive foreigners and that we are pretty similar to Italians and egyptrians in temper :)

every_mothers_n: Well it was built around 2300 years ago, but what matters is that it was demonstrated that it could fly.

The mysteries of the ancient Egyptians are countless. The pyramids and how they were built prove that the ancient Egyptians were geniuses in architecture, engineering and art. The mystery of mummification proves that they were the first anatomists and that they had great knowledge about the human body for their time. Another mystery is the model sailplane or model bird in Egyptian museum.

The story began when the model was discovered in 1898 in a tomb near Sakkara. The model was then categorized as that of a bird and placed in the Egyptian museum in its designated section, with all the other bird models. In 1969 Dr. Khalil Messiha noticed the difference between this model and the rest of the birds. The typical models of the ancient Egyptian birds have legs but this one did not. Other bird models had painted feathers but not this one. The model has a 7-inch wingspan and a vertical tail, not a horizontal one like typical ancient Egyptian bird models. Messiha's brother, a flight engineer, reproduced it in balsa wood and launched it and it flew. Dr. Messiha was then sure it was a model of an airplane not a bird. The model was from the 3rd century BC, from an age of invention that followed the death of Alexander the Great. That so-called Hellenistic period gave us gears, screws, plumbing, control valves, Euclidean geometry, Archimedes, and Ptolemy's astronomy. The hieroglyphs on the model airplane say "the Gift of Amon". Amon in ancient Egypt was known to be the god of wind and air and this was another proof that the model was more then a model bird. In addition to the phrase on the assumed model, the phrase "I want to fly" was found in three papyrus scripts.

There is no solid proof that the Egyptians were first to fly. However, many questions arise from this functioning model. Where the Egyptians the first pilots and did they build the first sailplane? If they did where is it?

1800 years later Leonardo da Vinci was still trying to invent flapping-wing airplanes and corkscrew-driven helicopters. But here, an Egyptian had produced something with all the features of a modern sailplane. If, in the future near or far, more artifacts are to be found proving that the Ancient Egyptians did build a plane and did fly, history will be corrected and the Wright Brothers would be the second to fly. So hold on to your seats Wright Brothers you might have a rough backspin!

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

Platao36, save some money, plan a trip to Egypt and make sure I'm in Cairo at that time.

After you're done with your touristy activists, as planned by your travel agent, you and your family are invited for an Egyptian home-cooked hot meal. This is going to top it all, I promise.

.. and it was the first 'powered' flight. Others have been sailing through the air before: Lilienthal, Montgolfiere, Icarus (ca 1200 BC, about the times of Ramses II and Moses).

As far as I know, there is no solid proof that Egyptians were first to fly. On the other hand, I’m not totally ruling out, after further research, that we might be the pioneers in this area.

Perhaps in years from now, a new excavation will evidently prove this wrong or right for good.

It wouldn't surprise me if we, Egyptians, had an early model for a plane back in the history.

In 2600 BC we invented a type of air condition called Cheops ships (solar ships), black ink (before Christ), paper, writing, year calendar..etc

Let alone make up, jewelry from gold and ivory, and bathing in milk like Ms. Cleopatra. Who needs body scrubs?..:))

Happy Happy: You are making me jeallous, i'm wishing so much to visit the museum, the piramids, valley of kings, etc...

Like i stated, it was built a virtual model on a program at Odissey channel about this 1st plane and it could fly.

Brit: I have that book, they also mention that the charriot of fire that it's refered on the bible would make sounds pretty similar to the present planes and also spoke of drawnings at a cave that would show a person using a space suit.

Interesting post. Regarding your second link, the argument is that wildlife; animals, fish, birds, and cattle ..etc. was heavily represented in Ancient Egypt. But there is a particular display in the Egyptian museum that is very similar to a plane. It is the tail of this object that is controversial and makes it more than just a bird.

It’s commonly called the "Sakkara’s bird”. Dates back to 200 BC, but was only excavated in the 19th century.

It is displayed in the upper floor of Egyptian Museum. I can barely recall seeing it from my last visit to the museum, as I was exhausted with all the beauty and details.

I get fixated on King Tut's room!
