Where can we buy a Dachshund puppy in Qatar

Hi,

We have been living 4 years here in Qatar. Our twin daughters, now 10, have been wanting to have a puppy for pet. We would like a small sized breed and have been looking for either a male Dachshund puppy 10 weeks or younger or maybe , even a Pomeranian, similar aged male pup.

Where would be a good/reliable place to buy a pup to keep as a pet? Any information/help in this area will be very appreciated.

Thank You!

Thank you everybody for your time. This is great help and you've let me know what are the points to look at. Will go to QAWS sometime this or the next weekend to checkout before we make an informed decision. Was a little taken aback to see a reputed site as europuppy.com selling pups as young as 5 weeks - maybe there is more to know.

Thanks again and enjoy your weekend!

Please be aware that a reputable breeder will NOT sell a puppy under the age of 8 weeks old and if you decide to import one from abroad it will need to be a minimum of 16 weeks old. Puppies being sold/imported under these age limits should be avoided!

The answer is there is no good place to buy animals in Qatar. And I feel qualified to say that after working 18 months in a vet clinic here. Almost all of the pet shop pups either die or have expensive genetic illnesses. They are imported from puppy farms in Egypt as young as 3 weeks, are terrified and generally traumatised and in bred.

QAWS may have a smaller breed pup for adoption, try them first.

You can look at Europuppy www.europuppy.com for a specific breed. I have seen lots of happy healthy pups come from them, usually from breeders in Hungary or Russia. It costs about 5000 - 7000QR but if you got a pet shop pup here for 3000QR the vet fees may well cost you a lot and you may be left without a pet. They organise everything including vaccinations, microchip and EU Pet passport and transportation.

I believe that there are too many dogs in Doha and wouldn't say that importing is a great idea but it's down to personal choice in the end.

There are no good/reliable pet stores in Qatar.

They are all horrendous and the animals are mistreated, absued and often diseased. Please buy from somewhere else or even better, check out Qatar Animal Welfare Society or better known as QAWS. here is their website: www.QAWS.org
