How do bring in Guinea Pigs to Doha?

Hi Animal Lovers,

I will be moving from Abu Dhabi to Doha along with my 3 Guinea Pigs. Any suggestions how to start the process, or no papers required at all? Flying on the plane is not a problem, as they will be travelling as a pet in cabin and the flight is only 45 minutes. Do the pet shops in Doha have hay, cavy food and wooden shavings in stock? I get here some of the staff in Carrefour and the food from vets or pet stores. Your help is very much appreciated, also if anyone need help or advise with regards to Guinea Pigs, I am glad to help. Thanks Doris

Hi Dodo,

How did the move go? I am taking my guinea pigs on a looong flight this summer and a little worried about them getting stressed out from the flight. How did yours react?

Thank you all for your feedback, especially desert queen. Please don't panic, Guinea Pigs are not pigs, they are also called Cavy and belong to rodents. Similar like a rabbit and bigger than a hamster. Very cute! Look at my picture, this is one.

Guinea Pig is different - pls do not misunderstand

The Guinea pig (also commonly called the cavy after its scientific name) is a species of rodent belonging to the family Caviidae and the genus Cavia. Despite their common name, these animals are not pigs, nor do they come from Guinea. They are native to the Andes, and while now extinct in the wild, they are closely related to several species that are commonly found in the grassy plains and plateaus of the region.

Ok people, Guinea Pigs are not pigs, it is just a name, they are like giant hamsters. Look at her picture, that is a guinea pig. I really don't know about bringing them over here though and I don't know who you would call to find out. Maybe if you are relocating with a company, you could ask them about the regulations for pets in the relocation. If it is a personal move, maybe try and contact some vets here and ask them about it. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help. I just wanted to get the message across that guinea pigs are not pigs, which are illegal here.

Come on guys, he is asking for "Guinea Pigs" not "Pigs". I don't think there is any thing common in both animals other than name :)
