I am considering bringing my two cats to Doha in February from Canada. Does anyone have advice or information or references to share? Thanking you in advance.
We brought two cats with us in August. When you arrive in Doha you will need to show authorities an import permit issued by govt. of Qatar and a health certificate including vaccination record issued by your Canadian vet within 7 days of arrival in Qatar.
We used a service to help with import permit: http://www.qatarpetrelocators.com
Govt. of Qatar also requires all cats to have an ID chip implanted. For our cats' benefit we chose to do this before we brought them.
If you are in Qatar already, visit the Dept of Animal Resources, Airport Road, near to Parachute signal and enquire about import formalities; probably a certificate of health and record of rabies vaccination. Otherwise ask your veterinary service in Canada.
Like most animals, cats travel well by air and airlines care for them and carry them in accordance with strict IATA regulations. As soon as possible contact your primary airline for advice and to book a passage for them. They might be on the same flight(s) as you but not in the cabin. Don't worry, the holds are pressurised and heated. If the flight involves a transfer they will be looked after well at all major airports such as London Heathrow, Amsterdam Schiphol, and Frankfurt. Prepare in good time and all should go well.
