Anyone know where I can purchase a dog?

Before you answer please do NOT recommend adopting.
We have been to QAWS and looked at every available adoption place and have not found what we are looking for.

We would like to buy a puppy because we already have a dog, that has been with us for 2 years, so by getting a puppy they will settle in easier.

Does anyone know where I can buy a puppy in Qatar? Or of anyone that has a dog who has given birth and is selling? Any advertisements?
It's so hard to find anything, and we aren't looking for a particular breed or pedigree.
But it has to be small because we don't have a huge garden.

We have considered importing but it's so much hassle and puts stress on the puppy, and it's very expensive, while you cannot garentee that it will not pass away shortly after purchase.

Please help?
Thanks, Isabella.

Thanks guys.

We have already fostered before an it didn't work out.

My dog is a terrier, I think the Irish type(not too sure) and he is about 2 years old, so it sort of a puppy, going into adulthood. A good play companion would make him happy, preferably a female.

We would LOVE to adopt as we know Qatar has many people who don't care about animals and dump them when they aren't "cute", it's horrible.

You are right, we will wait, but i have contacted Tanya123, and a Shih Tzu breed is about what we would like.

If anyone else knows of any other dogs or puppies that are small in nature please private message me,

I WILL BE VERY GREATEFUL!

thanks everyone.

There are hundreds of puppies in Doha looking for new homes!! We have new dogs bought into the shelter daily - today we took in a pup that was wandering around the farm on his own. Why not wait and see what you find in Qatar. As MaryCatherine said - puppies are not always the answer - sometimes theyre harder to introduce as they havent learnt any manners yet!

Please be aware that you can't bring a puppy into Qatar under the age of 16 weeks so you will not be able to get a young one abroad. If you decide that 16 weeks is young enough then we have plenty that young at QAWS!

It is also expensive as you would have to keep it in the country of origin until 16 weeks, it must be fully vaccinated before coming here, then you will need import/export permits from both countries (and sometimes health certificates as well), the air freight, crate, pet relocators (if you want all the hassle taken away from you) and then the cost of the puppy on top of all of that.

There are too many dogs in Qatar as it is, and there are lots of unwanted litters born all the time. Please take the time to wait until one is available in Qatar. There are always adverts and comments on QL about puppies as well. Tanya123 has a shi tzu pup for sale so wny not PM them.

Importing a new puppy should always be a last resort - you said you're not bothered about having a purebred so hang on in there until there is one that really deserves a new home.

Forgot to mention that all of my rescued dogs were at least 2-3 years of age with the oldest probably 5-7 years old.

Also that my dog is well socialized and while she likes to be boss doesn't have to be boss except if there are very exceptional circumstances.

The cats have been brought up around dogs since they were 5- 6 weeks old, so they don't have too many dog issues.

Your circumstances may be very different, but if it's an issue of how much time and effort you're prepared to put in, perhaps it would be better if you just forgot the whole idea. Puppies are a lot of work on their own, let alone integrating into an established dog's territory.

Would have to disagree in principal that a puppy is better to integrate with an established dog already in the house. I've fostered 5 dogs (and too many cats to count) since I arrived in the Gulf 10 years ago. I have a dog (brought from North America) when I came originally, all the other dogs are rescues. Only one became a problem in terms of dominance issues. Belgian shepherds, german shepherds, terriers and saluki crosses all got along well not only with the dog but with my cats.

However, it did take time, patience and a lot of effort on my part. If you are not in a position to take those on I can't criticize. However, size of garden is no reason not to take on a slightly larger dog (maybe between 10 - 15 kgs fully grown) as you need to exercise all but toy breeds at least twice a day with a 30 - 45 minute walk. If you're not willing to take that on, then don't get a second dog.

Is it challenging to get up at 6am every day to take a dog for a "good walk" YES. So is raising a baby to adulthood over 18 years. It requires commitment and a kit if backbone and unconditional love - if you can't give that then don't.

I do know that some people have used www.europuppy.com, I have seen 4 of the puppies that have arrived here and they have been healthy and old enough to be seperated from their mothers. Also, call the local vets. Often small breed pups may not be advertised, people prefer to use word of mouth and personal recommendations.

I sure as heck wouldn't buy a dog here. If you've decided not to adopt I'd recommend going to a very reputable breeder in your home country. As you know, you have a dog for as much as 15 years so they need to start out as healthy as possible. I have a nine and a half year old labrador that has NO ear problems, eye problems, arthritis, dermatitis, or digestive problems. I credit this to a good breeder.

Fair enough, you have obviously thought about it carefully and decided not to adopt. Beware of pet shops, the pups tend to have been taken from the mother very young and often have immune disorders, nervous disorders and at the moment almost guaranteed ringworm.

You could import a puppy if you want a certain breed, after spending 3,000QR at the pet shop and another 2,000QR on the vet treatment, often after which the puppy dies, it isn't that much more expensive.

Good luck, JJ
