Vodafone will battle with Qtel for market share when operations start next year
A ‘focus on customers’ and a ‘simple’ approach will be Vodafone’s strategy for success as it enters Qatar’s telecommunication market next year.
Grahame Maher, CEO of Vodafone Qatar, made the comments as part of his keynote address for the Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Programme Open Day, hosted by Carnegie Mellon and Qatar Science and Technology Park.
“What's important is that change comes from the people in the business and the people in the country,” Maher said, according to reports published in Qatar’s The Peninsula. "It has to be about more than making money or what's the point?"
“Focus on people and customers and keep it simple. It's about focusing on the people just like you would your family,” Maher added.
Vodafone is expected to spark a battle with Qtel for a majority telecom market share when they officially start operations in March next year. According to Bloomberg, Vodafone Group and its local partner, the Qatar Foundation, paid 7.72 billion riyals ($2.1 billion) for Qatar’s second wireless licence.
"For us local knowledge, local values and local trust will be key to our success,” Maher concluded.
