Teaching Positions

Hello! I am interested in moving to Qatar in September. I am currently teaching in Taiwan and would like to continue teaching in Qatar. Does anyone have any information about what the requirements are to get a teaching position? Can I come to Qatar first to look for work or do I have to have a job to go to?
I have many more questions, but this is a good start. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it! Thanks, Dale

This may be of interest to you. I am a primary school English teacher here in Doha, also looking to change positions come September.

Thanks for the info so far... especially the heads-up about getting things in order before I get there.

I think I would be sticking to English teaching as I do not have a degree in teaching. I do, however, have a Journalism degree and 5 years experience teaching ESL overseas. I am hoping that will get me somewhere! Or do I still have to get that darn TEFOL or TESOL certificate?

Any suggestions as to where I can find appropriate job listings for what I am qualified for? Again, thanks for your knowledge. This is much more effective than surfing the net. Dale

I hear Qatar University is hiring English teachers, MA in English or TESOL (or similar) required.

If you are an English teacher, there is a huge demand. For others, I think the demand is still here. So many new people coming, that lots of the expat schools are hiring, I think. There's a brand new Canadian School that just opened, not sure about the details though.

I agree with the previous comment. Make sure you have the job before coming, if you don't you won't be offered stuff to "entice" you to come like housing (make sure you get a villa or flat, NOT housing allowance, the prices keep going up no matter what the newspapers say), plane ticket home, etc.

Check with the College of the North Atlantic-Qatar. They may have some openings.

Look on www.tes.co.uk

Do you have PGCE? - for international schools - if so what is your subject?

or you will need an MA or Phd for Unis

You need a job before - if you look whilst here it is time consuming and costly. Also you will be a local hire and won't get all benefits such as housing.
