Need For A Private FM Radio
All,
Been to QITCOM conference, and there were talks of encouraging enterprenurship. I do believe that starting a private English, Hindi, Malyalam and Philipino FM Radio Channel is a right way in that direction. I can also list the pros and cons if any enterprenuer (off Course Qataris) decides to start one, just as a business case
Pros
1)Expats unfortunately spend lot of time commuting on their cars/buses etc and it would be a wish list that they listen to some "quality music" so the Advertisement revenue that can be made by starting a Radio would be huge because it will be popular, when I say popular, you can also spare large number of expats 'the headache' and 'misery' of listening to 97.5 QBS or 107 QBS, which un fortunately could not and may be cannot keep up with time.
2)You could boost the morale or pep up the day of a listener by recruiting the right Radio Jockey or presentors who would add some humour just like Virgin FM Radio or 105.4 e.t.c, plus you could also send in lots of social messages , update expats on traffic conditions e.t.c Plus more revenue by having quiz competitions boost of revenue to QTEL and Vodafone, and off course the enterprenuer
3)Since Radio is cheaper to buy, many low income expats would know of the latest rules and regulations of the host country
4) Win win situation for all.
5) Return on investment faster than expected in a booming economy
Cons
Frankly speaking I cant think of any cons,
Does any 1 has any idea where is the Qatar Urdu FM 107 office is located..
I was just doing research on FM in QATAR and i found that Qatar has very vast scope in FM.. But we need some investment for that.. And i sure you ll get back your investment may be in 1 year.. The reason behind this are many.....

Hi,
Good thought to begin with....
Let me know if you need DJ for hosting shows on FM.
(Hindi / English).
Well i am Manager IT for a big firm and do have some contacts in ICT for my wifi infrastructure...let me know if you need any assistance on frequency.
Thanks
Dj Troby
I believe that if you got good contact with people i think you can turn this or any business into reality.
Mandilurur,
I agree with you and that is the worry, but I can see
Qatar not allowing private FM , with a wide array of issues that ICT may pose, but it could be worth giving it a try, now this enterprise can only be done with a powerful Qatari sponsor, for obivious reasons
but I have no financial motivies , but purely an oppurtunity for anyone to look at.
if there is a good business proposal then why not , and if it really helps the society at large why not. and I wish it is not too much to ask for a good quality of life. there are other buisness ideas for enterprenures i have that can only spell success, but the attitude must be try try till you suceed
Is it really that difficult? No, I'd say it's even more difficult! Qatar is not the kind of place that encourages business competition. Just ask yourself why there is only ONE Toyota dealer, ONE Mercedes dealer, etc.

Optimus_Prime said Starting Cost ...
Hi Talha22,
sorry for the late reply, it is not the cost of starting this business that is a worry, but truly it is to get the necessary permission from ICT for a frequency and the pull you have there.
For startup , all you need is around Qr 200,000, take up a franchise with the leading Private FM around the globe and earn on the advertising cost Break down of cost
USD 20,000 for a broadcast equipment and installation (you can buy cheaper at ebay)
USD 10,000 for a server and internet link for startup
USD 10,000 for billboard advertisment
USD 10,000 for rent and transport cost.
USD 5000 for clearance and logistics
Now as it gains popularity , you can hire RJs that cater to the listeners that happens as business mature.
With this investment you are tageting atleast 600,000 listeners.
a very average business would happily part away with Qr 10,000\- per month to get its product or services broadcasted to a minimum 300,000 audience, so all you need is 10 customers to break even in the first month alone, if you orient the business well your ROI shold be QR million within six months then you go for expansion

You are absolutely right the number of expatriates here is more than local people and this radio and television is a huge opportunity to start with. But i am curious could you please indicate a starting cost of this project and i will look if any of my contacts could help in setting this business with you, you can personal message me.
