Facebook's New Privacy Settings
After weathering a storm of criticism on their privacy policies, Facebook last week announced that they would introduce simpler privacy controls and settings. Users who logged into their Facebook accounts were greeted by a notification that the changes were now live and that they could now “control what I share.”
Did you take a look at the new privacy settings on your Facebook account? What do you think of them – are they a step forward into allowing more user autonomy and privacy or are they worse than the old privacy settings or even not any different?
What impact can these settings have on your Facebook usage? Are you OK with disclosing any private information on your Facebook account or have you started to think of being less open on Facebook and disclose less personal stuff?
Tell us what you think and get to know more about the privacy control settings, by visiting the full commentary post on the settings at Digital Qatar blog: www.digitalqatar.qa
Face book is just fancy way of sharing your life and persional info with everybody, at some point you are risk of having this info used against you, they may be share the info with goverment and possible commerical organizations so use on your own risk !!
Facebook will just be another MySpace, Hi5, or Beebo. In a year or two someone will come along and introduce a better social networking site and we'll all get bored of Facebook (if we aren't already) and hop on the next bandwagon.
I'm not so concerned with what Facebook's 'stated' privacy policies are today, since they seem to change on a monthly basis, and because it would be naive to trust them. If you are willing to log in to Facebook's site, you have to surrender some amount of control of your content to them. If you are posting comments or photos that could get you in trouble later on if misused, then don't post them.

Did you take a look at the new privacy settings on your Facebook account?
Yes.
What do you think of them – are they a step forward into allowing more user autonomy and privacy or are they worse than the old privacy settings or even not any different?
They are almost exactly the same.... But they do look clearer.
What impact can these settings have on your Facebook usage?
Non.
Are you OK with disclosing any private information on your Facebook account or have you started to think of being less open on Facebook and disclose less personal stuff?
I have multiple accounts on Facebook, for different groups of "Friends" ... The word "private information" could mean anything... I wouldn't write that I hate my boss, or that I had a fight with my wife on FB, it doesn't belong online (even if it was labeled as Private).
p.s. Why are you asking these questions? I don't think ICTQatar can do anything about Facebook...
where is my license for the wireless! ICT ? :D ... you are really an ICT guy? nice to meet you in virtual, but even in reality you people are so kind, nice day for you. btw: thx for the information ;)
