Want to fly through the skies on a drone taxi? Get to Dubai in July!

Game Of Drones

If you have dreamt of flying through the air on something other than a full-blown passenger plane, then your dream is taking firm shape.

Many companies around the world have toyed with the idea of launching airborne vehicles to ease transportation woes. And if reports are to be believed, Dubai may leapfrog all of them by launching a first-of-its-kind drone taxi this summer.

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority’s Chairman and Executive Director Mattar Al Tayer recently announced their intention to start operating passenger services along predetermined routes, veginning in July. He made the announcement at the World Government Summit.

Reports suggest that Ehang 184 autonomous quad-opener electric drones will be used to ferry people through the air.

The Ehang 184 can carry a load of up to 100kg (including a single piece of luggage) and can fly for a distance of 50kms on a single charge. It can also attain top speeds of up to 160kmph.

Officials are expected to remotely monitor the drones and pilot them from a centralized command center. All you will need to do is hop in and choose from a list of predetermined destinations where you can land.

It is understood that the city has already started test riding the drones, so it could be a reality soon.

So are you going to fly one of those passenger drones?

I'll be there as long as zafirah comes with me and we can then see the city from the air together
