SEC takes steps against private tuition
The Supreme Education Council (SEC) is to launch a crackdown against private tuition from the second semester of the current academic year.
Gulf Times reports that according to the local Arabic daily Al Arab, the campaign will prohibit private lessons and the promotion of the “phenomenon” with heavy penalties for people who would violate the rules.
The daily, quoting Hassan al-Muhammadi, head of the Communication Office at the SEC, said the penalties for offenders could be imprisonment up to six months and fines reaching QR100,000 or both.
Officers of the SEC will have the judicial authority to deal with any offence in this regard.
Al-Hassan said the measures are being taken to implement the new law for practicing of educational services in Qatar issued last September.
He urged publishing houses and advertisement platforms to participate in the campaign by refusing to release any material that promotes and encourages private tuition.
According to the new law, the SEC has the authority to approve educational centres and issue sanctions against those who practice without permission. “Unauthorised private tutors will be targeted in the first phase of the drive,” al-Muhammadi said.
To curb the “unhealthy” practice, awareness campaigns through different media will be run to inform the residents about the new law, he said. The council has already started adding lessons and explanations on the SEC website so that students can study without the help of tutors.
In addition, special classes will be conducted at the schools for students who need help in some of the subjects.
Blaming parents for the “laziness” of their kids, the official urged pupils to focus on their teachers in classes instead of depending on private tutors, a phenomenon which, he said, could have a negative impact on children in the future.
Well seems Education is now below expectations, Money is more important than educating the people? dang!!
We have just received a request from an Independent School to teach English to 100 students aged between 8 and 10. I wonder what their English teacher is doing.
They need more aircraft and tanks. And with an oil price of US$ 33 they have to set priorities.
Higher salaries means higher fees. Lower salaries bring less qualified teachers
Anyway its a good move. But SEC should also strictly give instruction to all schools / collages to provide a minimum salary for their faculties. Most of the teachers are working on a very low salary & it forces them to take part time income like tutions.... So hope SEC will also look into the matter urgently..
SEC suffering a bit of jealousy , since they failed to establish a reliable education system ... so let's fail students at schools and at home !
So you can't get your child in a school as the schools are full, and if you try to educate them with a trained professional this is illegal? Ok then.
Enjoy Kidd's extra overhead removed! Good News.
It's better to take action against the school fee and transport fee other than this. If the schools were better then nobody will go for private tuition. Now schools are squeezing the parents as they have no other choice other than paying the fee hike which always happens during the middle of the year.
Like always, these dopes have got their priorities on a tangent...
#imbeciles
Better take action against rising fees than private tuition. I dont see anything wrong in private tuition.
No.., but then this is Qatar and schools are money making machines
Is it acceptable to raise the tuition in beginning of 2nd trimester?
Good move .. Too many 'tutors' after easy money
If the schools were better private tuition wouldn't be needed. The SEC is actually admitting that it has failed.
