Qatar’s population shows a growth of 4.5% in August compared to a month earlier

This is the time of the year when Qatar’s population shows a huge fluctuation from month to month, owing to school holidays and their reopening cycles.
The trend did not change this year, and the country’s population showed a 4.5% increase on August 31, compared to a month earlier, according to statistics issued by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).
MDPS explained the rise as owing to the return of thousands of expatriates from their home countries after their children’s school holidays, reported Gulf Times.
According to the MDPS, Qatar’s present population stands at 2,561,643 people, up from the year’s low of 2,450,285 a month back.
As per August figures, there were 1,931,077 males and 630,566 females in the country, while in July there were 1,903,888 and 546,397 respectively.
It is not unusual for numbers to show a significant drop every year between June 1 and August 31.
Having said that, the latest population figure is still almost 117,000 lower than the highest number recorded — 2,731,910 — in May, 2018.
The August figure is 4.7% more than the population of the corresponding period last year (2,446,328, August 2017), says the official report, which was released yesterday.
The highest monthly population figure for women in Qatar was in May, 2018, when there were 697,899 females. If the same trend continues, then there is every chance of the female population in the country crossing the 700,000-mark for the first time before the year ends.
It is expected that the population will shoot up in the next two months as usual, and that the year’s highest may be recorded when the November figures are released.
