Qatari energy firm cuts salaries by half, throws employees’ life into limbo
Low oil prices have had an impact on all walks of life. Employees of an oil company in the country woke up to the harsh reality when their company decided to renegotiate the salary of all their staff.
According to some employees, the ‘harsh decision’ offered almost 50% less salary in the new contract.
A Qatari employee who was affected by the cut, said that his salary got reduced by 50% and housing allowance by 30%, reported The Peninsula.
As things went down, a new management took over the company’s running and promised staff that none of them would lose their jobs. However, their new contracts were significantly lower than the earlier ones. The employees have been given two weeks to think over the new contract and sign them.
The Qatari employee, who was quoted by the newspaper, said that there was all likelihood of him ending up in jail as his new contract did not cover the financial obligations he had at banks.
Having several children to take care of, he has requested competent authorities to help solve the problem.

Brit: I think you, with your many years of experience in this neck of the woods, know the answer to your question about naming/identifying the big fish when the publicity is of the negative kind...doesn't happen, usually...i personally feel its good practice sometimes and not so much other times...as with most things, its arbitrary and case specific :-)
MM is really takes licking A * S * S of his employers to a whole another level. :V
As an aside - Is it illegal or unwise to mention the name of the organization on a public forum or newspaper ?
@acchabaccha: leave MM without cash for 5 days and I am sure all his philosophy will die forever...
Kashif: I have repeatedly said MM is a "philosopher". His views and thinking are far above the normal man. It is nothing new from him.
When company could afford, they paid higher salaries. Now they cant, choice is still ours.
This is the harsh reality of life. Oil prices are low and costs need to be reduced. I think we all are affected by this in one way or another.
It is also a wake up call for expats - We are exactly that - expatriates.. Here on contract until they need us
MM, I would like you to start working without salary from the very next month so that everyone should understand money is not important and everyone should understand the meaning of "being loyal to your guardian"...
We need to stand by our sponsor, money is not everything in the life. Being loyal to your guardian is more important than getting salary every month. We need to be sensitive towards our business's health ......... ................... ................. .............
