Qatar, which has been ranked among the safest countries in the world, continues to work toward crime prevention.

Yesterday, the country joined the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Japan.

The high-level conference is being held in Kyoto and will run until March 12.

Considered the largest and most diverse conference, convening policy-makers, practitioners, academia, intergovernmental organizations and civil society in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, the UN Congress is held every five years.

It covers a wide range of topics that have made a considerable impact in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice and influenced national and international policies and professional practices.

Qatar’s delegation at the Congress includes His Excellency the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna Sultan bin Salmeen Al Mansouri, Ambassador of Qatar to Japan Hassan bin Mohamed Rafi Al Emadi, and HE the Second Secretary of the Embassy of Qatar in Vienna Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Nasser Al Thani.

HE Qatar’s Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi also took part in the event’s opening session via video conferencing.

HE the Minister handed over the banner from Qatar, as President of the 13th Congress hosted by Doha in 2015, to Japan.

He also emphasized Qatar’s eagerness to offer support to the new Japanese presidency for the success of its responsibilities under the role.
