Overtaking from the right still a major concern

Overtaking from the right still a major concern

Citizens have expressed concern over rising cases of overtaking from the right on the country’s roads, according to a Gulf Times report.

The number of violations had reduced following a decision by the Traffic Department to seize the cars of offending motorists. However, the citizens point out that some people are indulging in this practice again, the report states.

They have called for strict implementation of the rules to prevent overtaking from the right, particularly in the peak hours.

Thousands of expatriates arrive in Qatar from different countries every year, they say, adding that many are unaware of traffic rules and proper driving methods.

What is required is greater awareness, which, they say, is more important than recording violations and imposing penalties.

The citizens say the factors responsible for this violation include severe traffic congestion and worries over arriving late for work.

However, these are no justifications for indulging in a dangerous practice like overtaking from the right, which causes accidents and hampers the traffic flow.

QLers: What do you think of this situation in Qatar

Whoa skywalker. Emergency lane!! don't give the big cars ideas. For them every time is an emergency. I think this whole thing is part of the evolution to sane driving. It will take years to evolve ,to realize and to accept, till then make sure you use all the mirrors wisely. I have trouble to get to my home these days, there happens to be a tea shop and and all the big Bee's park their car on the center of the road to have tea!!!??. Most of the time it is just pity I feel for them and I go over to the next lane to get home.

Can someone explain me this situation. You are driving on a two lane road. You are driving on the fast lane but there is a car in front of you that is going way slower. If he insists on not going to the right lane, and if you overtake from the right line will there be a fine?

Or you are on the slow lane, but someone passes from the right which is the emergency lane is where they get fine?

Ok. I agree overtaking from the right is an offense. What do we do with the geniuses on the speed track who don't move to the slower track voluntarily when they notice a speeding car (within speed limits) in the speed track behind them. The question is are we allowed to flash insanely :) so that the person ahead of us frantically pulls to the slower track and makes room for accidents?? !! (land cruisers exempted from the question)!!! I hope I get the courage to flash and shoo people away from the speed track someday.

Overtaking from Right is not so serious offence compared to use of High Beam lights which cause major accidents but here in Qatar all and almost SUV used to drive in Highbeam lights and no one any Columns are so serious to discuss this matter

TD is good only on press releases of their new traffic laws. But when it comes for a strict implementation, its a BIG QUESTION MARK.

Some stupid drivers force you to overtake them from the right. Passing from the right when you don't have option to go left or straight in not a really big issue to me.

Its dangerious i agree, but there more dangerous act on the road they should talk about.

It speaks for the general stupidity of people living in Qatar. If we assume they aren't stupid then they are criminals.

Qatar Traffic Department should deploy more traffic police in major roads, overtaking from right side is still rampant during rush hour. If possible a police shall not be in uniform with private vehicles.

Please include drivers using cell phones while driving, mostly you can find them in the middle road lane that causes very slow driving.
